Kindle review- can't evaluate from sample
I'm sampling all the Kindle versions of the Art of War to pick a readable translation.Hey ho- this is another one where the introduction takes up the entirety of the downloadable free sample. I would like to have a bit of translation to actually see whether I want to fork out vast sums instead of just plumping for the very available and pretty readable Lionel Giles 1910 translation.Despite this the author appears to specialise in translating early Chinese treatises on war, so he's the one to shove into the search bar if you want more swords and mayhem. I giggled over his early statement "Chinese miltary thought probably originated with neolithic village conflicts..." Duh, Homo sapiens does show more evidence of routinely beating up their rivals when they settle down with the trappings which are associated with "Neolithic" cultures. Well they have those nice settlements to put their graves next to (in the UK, that means long barrows). It doesn't mean that they weren't just as feisty in the more nomadic Palae/ Meso -lithic! And "probably" is such a cop out!

The art of good writing about the art of war!
As with Clausewitz's texts about war, this is one of those booksyou hear of but never actually read. More's the pity. "The Art of War" is absolutely brilliant. It is concise, succinct, read-able and extraordinarily relevant in not just war but also ourpersonal interactions. There is a wealth of pithy information, well written, concerning war on or off the battlefield. Thereare tips on ruthlessness, strategy, morale, tactics and camp-aigning. It's all dealt with and it is a good "fun" read. Everybusiness person should own a copy! So should each half of a lov-ing couple! I am delighted I bought it and heartily recommend it.

Straight to the point fast info
Straight to the point and very very informative. You can see this had alot of influence of 48 laws of power and the 50th law by Robert greene.

Complex and Thorough
If you just want the basic version of the book, get a shorter less expensive version but if you want every comment and footnote possible to really understand this book, get this one.

Liked it very much
Introduction is very detailed (almost too detailed) but once you get past that the book becomes very very interesting.
