A friend with Stage 4 ovarian cancer recommended this book. Having gone through breast cancer treatment this year, with continued health issues, I found Colleen's words to be a much needed balm for my hurting heart. She weaves comfort, encouragement, truth and hope into each day. Beautiful writing and the best part was having a space to capture one gratitude each day. I bought additional copies for two aunts who recently became widows. Highly recommend for anyone going through tough times.

I’m just finishing this book, and it has been such an encouragement for me in the middle of a season of trials and loneliness. While my trials seem small compared to all that the author is walking through, the profound truths expressed in short, readable snippets point my weary heart back to God. It is evident that Colleen Chao has a gift of words is walking through the valley of the shadow of death, and what she has to share comes straight from her heart. It will encourage any sufferer, whether they are facing small, daily life struggles or deep, life-altering trials. After walking alongside a few people through agonizing trials I’ve found that sometimes people need bite-sized truths to cling too. That’s one of the things I love about this book. A sufferer does not need to sit for hours and read pages and pages to dig up truths that will strengthen them for the path forward. Each section has a one-word title and a few pages with rich Biblical truths, personal stories, and quotes from sufferers of the past. It’s a perfect book for someone who needs truths to anchor them in the midst of a raging storm.

I have bought a few copies already for different friends in need of encouragement, inspiration and spiritual strength. You will love it!!

This book is so good. I have recommended it to multiple friends going through difficult times and they have all said that it was just what they needed. Colleen Chao is real about the struggle of suffering in all sizes. But she's also real and incredibly encouraging with the truth. Her writing is easy to read - almost as if she's sitting with you having coffee and sharing her life. If you are going through a hard time, read this book. If you know someone going through a hard time, read this book and share a copy with them. If you're not going through a hard time, read this book for when you do!

This book is precious!I have never read anything quite like it.The author has a God-given way with words and this book is transformative.It is one that I will keep handy with my Bible and refer to often. Each chapter is short and yet packed with such powerful truth & encouragement.I'm sure I will be buying this book many times in the future to give away to those who are walking through difficult times. It has blessed me, encouraged me, and strengthened me so deeply.I'm praying for the author, Colleen, and her family and I'm certain her legacy will continue to live on through this book. I can't recommend it enough!

I only read the intro and a few pages when I met my friend who is blind due to Macular Degeneration. Even though it began 20 YEARS ago it still is so very frustrating for her. I knew right away she needed this book. (Her cellphone can read it for her.) I gave her the one my other friend had loaned me so I ordered a new one to replace the one I gave away and also one for me to keep.Now I will order another and have it shipped to another good friend whose daughter died of cancer a few years ago.Everyone is going through something. God truly inspired Colleen Chao in writing this book!

Each chapter presents a rich, wonderful lesson from the author's personal life of loss, challenge, and affliction. It's been said, "A message from a life, will reach a life." There is simply no greater way to communicate relief and hope that what is presented, from firsthand experience, in this book. I was pulled in to Chao's honesty and transparency after the first read. There was not one piece that did not speak to me. If you or a loved one are going through a difficult season, this prize of a book is worth one's time and interest. Like the Balm of Gilead, this read will aid in bringing relief and hope to the weary, battered soul.
