A Fine Writing Implement in Every Respect
This pen is instantly recognizable as the high-end fountain pen it is. From the moment you see the gold-engraved lettering on the magnetic lid of the luxurious box until you finish writing with a smile on your face you know you’re dealing with quality. The gold plated “fine” nib is perfectly ground and polished so that it lays down a perfectly smooth, consistent, and continuous line with absolutely no skipping or blotching EVER! The pen doesn’t dry out between uses and writes oh so smoothly. This fountain pen has a nice heft and balance that tells your brain you are holding a quality instrument from the moment you take it in your hand. During very long writing sessions, the weight can be noticeable after a long while if you don’t have a relaxed grip, but personally I like the gravitas of a substantial pen. When holding and using this pen, there’s absolutely no doubt that its an expensive, well-crafted, and world-class writing implement. This is pen design and manufacturing at its finest. The fit and finish are first rate and as good as I have ever seen on a pen. It’s obvious that the manufacturing tolerances are extremely tight and superbly well executed. As for styling, the combination of high gloss black with gold accents is just beautiful and exudes class. This pen most definitely makes a statement and is an attention-getter. Literally everyone who has ever seen this pen has commented that it looks very expensive or high-quality and it often elicits comments like “I can’t imagine what you paid for that!” or “wow, that looks like it was really expensive!”. When others have tried it, they are invariably amazed and impressed with how smoothly and beautifully it writes. I think of this pen as an heirloom item that I expect to pass on to my children. I’m not usually precious about things like this, but it’s so nice that I bought a leather sheath to minimize the chances of scratching or damaging it and after a few months of use it still looks brand new. I’ve refilled it several times now (8-10) and I haven’t even had to clean it between refills (even though all pens should be rinsed out at refill time, especially when changing ink colors). I guess the best praise I can give it is to say that if I lost this pen tomorrow, I would replace it immediately.

Spectacular pen for the money.
The MSRP on these is very, very high. Too high. But when you can find it on Amazon for under $200, these pens are suddenly very, very competitive. The 18k nib has no flex at all, but is a little bouncy and writes superbly. The lacquer on the body is nice and the textured metal grip is smooth without being slippery. The pen is well balanced posted or not, comes with two ink cartridges and a nice parker converter for bottled ink (do yourself a favor and buy a bottle of ink with this. Parker cartridges are so bland) and it's a nice medium size for most hands.packaging is lovely, too. Very good for a gift. If you're buying for someone who is not used to or does not already regularly use fountain pens, go with a fine nib over a medium. Fountain pen ink is not going to sit on top of cheap paper like ballpoint or rollerballs will, so the ink can soak in and cause ugly feathering lines. A fine or "F" (parker doesn't offer them, but an extra fine or "EF" is even better) nib is the way to go for someone who will be writing on all sorts of paper. The only downside to this pen is that it doesn't have the dry-out immunity of something like the Platinum 3776 or even the pilot custom 74/91. If you plan on not using the pen for more than a month or two, get a platinum 3776. This pen needs to be used at a minimum every 2-3 weeks or it might dry out.I think I still recommend the Platinum 3776 soft fine "SF" as the best "premium fountain pen gift for someone who has never used a fountain pen" but this is an excellent pen as well. I bought one for myself and one for my sister in law's entrance to med school, along with a bottle of pilot iroshizuku ink, and I suspect it will see a lot of use.

Outstanding fountain pen!
I rarely write reviews but I find myself compelled to share my experience with this product. The model that I’m reviewing is the Parker Sonnet in black lacquer with gold plated trims and solid 18k gold nib. In terms of aesthetics, the finishing in the black lacquered body and the gold trims is impeccable, absolutely gorgeous. Sizewise, I would classify this pen as medium size even though when posted it could definitely be considered large. Nevertheless, posted or not, the pen is well balanced. I’m using it unposted because when posted, although well balanced, tends to be heavy (after all this is an all metal pen). Finally, in terms of performance, this pen delivers big time. The 18k nib (in my case fine) is very smooth and responsive and flexible enough to give what I considered perfect feedback. This pen is without any doubts an excellent writer. In my opinion, you’ll be hard pressed to find a pen in this price range with the combination of finishing and high level of performance that this pen offers. An 18k nib of this quality alone is worth the price of this pen. Note: You don’t need to buy a converter separately. The pen comes with a converted (already installed) plus two cartridges of black ink.

Excellent

Great pen
The details of the pen was perfect and I can change from a ink cartridge to a ink converter and vice versa. It does come with 2 ink cartridges and a ink converter so you can switch between the two.Holds nicely in my hand and writes perfectly for a left hander. However do research before hand to know which nib is perfect for a left hander as it won’t tell you here and not all nib size is suitable for some who writes with their left hand.Perfect for me as I won’t be spending loads of money on replacing my pens. Be careful if you are planning on taking it with you everywhere as you don’t want to lose a really nice and expensive pen. I only use mine for hand written letters and note taking at home as my work provides pens and I don’t need to write that often as we use tablets.
