Soft enough for a senior dog to eat without being runny. Plus, it doesn't smell gross to the humans in the house.
It has put some pep back into my 15 year old Shepard Mix. It is formulated in such a way that his sensitive, tumor riddled system is able to process it easily. As the human guest in his house (yes, it's my dog's house; he just lets me live here and pay the bills), I greatly appreciate the drastic reduction in gas and foul odor coming out of my dog. My dog was the runt of his litter and his digestive system was under-developed, according to one of his earlier vets. He has had trouble digesting food his entire life. It's only gotten worse since he's hit 15, lost many teeth and grown tumors throughout his abdomen and in his throat. (He doesn't let it slow him down, so under the care of a vet, we get to enjoy him each day without having to make that awful decision dog owners sometimes have to face.) As his teeth and throat issues were pushing me closer to having to decide that "the time", had come, I tried Natural Balance's Sweet Potato and Chicken canned food as my last ditch effort to find him a food he could eat comfortably. WOW!!!! My review is by no means an implication of the food's ability to cure anything, but within just one feeding, it was like I had a new dog. My 15 year old Shepard stopped moping around, he began playing with toys again, a light came back to his eyes, and despite his arthritis, he now comes running to the kitchen when I go ANYWHERE near the spot where I keep his food. For me, the food doesn't stink and it doesn't look like something already ate it and rejected it before canning it. It comes out of the can looking like a mash of sweet potatoes and chicken rather than a watery stew. It's soft enough for me to break it up and spread it around his plate with just a spoon whereas other "mashes" we've tried were so gelatinous that I had to use a knife or warm them to break them apart. It is thick enough to hide his tablets in and it coats them well enough that he can't suck the food off and spit the tablets out like he's learned to do.Other than the price increasing from $20 to $32 per 12 can case in the few months since I first tried it, I have NO complaints. In 15 years, I have finally found a dog food that makes both me and the dog happy. The vet is also satisfied with it because unlike other soft foods I've tried, this one is meeting the dog's dietary needs AND I don't have to glam it up to get him to eat it. To the contrary, I now wonder if my dog is getting enough to eat or if he is just now being greedy now that he has a food that doesn't seem to upset his stomach, hurt his bad teeth, or pain his throat. After each feeding, he will spend a good 15-20 minutes sniffing and licking around the kitchen floor to get any bits he may have pushed off the plate while diving in. He never did that before.Again, I can't and don't recommend this product to cure or treat anything other than dog hunger, but it has been a canned miracle for my very sick, senior, four-legged friend. The cans must be opened with a can opener. I do wish they came with pop tops.

entices reluctant dogs to eat
My 10-month-old Rottweiler has been eating the Natural Balance Duck and Potato kibble for awhile due to sensitive stomach issues. However, she recently had a bout of inappetence. After $50 spent at the vet, it was determined that she was not dehydrated, did not have a viral or bacterial infection, and had not swallowed a foreign object. While I know it is OK for a dog to go without food for a day, having lost several pets to illness last year (one chronic and one sudden), I was hyper-concerned. One of my first ideas to get my dog to eat was to try mixing in some of the wet version of the dry food she'd been eating. I figured the smell would entice her, and I've generally had good luck with products from this particular line.In fact, this wet food was exactly what I was looking for. It got my dog eating again in no time. I feed her twice a day. At the end of the day, she's had a total of 1 can + 3 cups of kibble, which is the amount prescribed on the can for an 80-pound dog. The food doesn't coat the kibble, but you can sort of embed the kibble in the wet food. There is a strong "smoked" smell to the food. As a vegetarian, this smell is not particularly appealing to me, but the important thing is not what I think, but what the dog thinks, and she loves it. Even though my dog has been on kibble her whole life until recently, this food was gentle on her stomach. Her elimination is, if anything, improved -- firmer stools, etc.Note: I haven't experienced a ton of cans from different lots just yet. I got a couple of cases from Amazon yesterday and the cans do not appear to be dented. I, personally, am not too concerned about a few dents in cans or slightly different moisture levels from can to can, as this is a feature I commonly find in other types and brands of canned pet foods (particularly cat foods) ordered from Amazon, and my cats have not suffered because of it. (I think it's just a combination of the hazard of having things sent UPS and small variations in factory conditions...)For what it's worth, at the time I am writing this review, it's cheaper by almost 60-70 cents a can to buy this from Amazon (with free shipping) than it is to pick it up at the local store that carries it. Also, these cans do not have pull tabs so you will need a can opener to get them open.

Convenient and well priced
I love being able to save some money on my canned dog food by purchasing it in cases, you usually save a few bucks doing so. Even better is free 2 day delivery!I feed my boxer Nubz the same dry food and a rotation of different canned to ensure he's getting the different vitamins in different types. NB is one of my regular foods, Nubz loves it.No complaints.Thank you, if my review has helped you in any way, I'd be extremely grateful for you to click "yes" you found my review helpful. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me, I'd be happy to try to answer what I can.Best Wishes and Positive Thoughts,BluntReviews

Good dog food.
The dogs love it! They can't get enough and always gets very excited when they know it's time to eat. The meat and rice seems good quality to me and is not yucky like other wet dog food.
