A Tradition of Serenity: The Tropical Houses of Ong-ard Satrabhandhu

This is a showcase of some of the works by the renowned architect Ong-ard. Recently, I stayed at the Rachamankha hotel in Chiang Mai and I really loved the design of the hotel. This is why I bought this book.From the time I walked into the hotel to the moment I got to my hotel room, I have comfortable and pleasant feeling all the way. I enjoyed it so much and I felt sad that I had to leave. He has done a great job in combining the Chinese and northern Thai (or Lanna) architectures. The simplicity and yet classy design just makes you feel good about the place.The book has clearly stated that this is a photographed volume showcase. It is not meant to teach you architectural design. I'm surprised to see some of comments in some of the reviews.

Beautiful volume. If you like Southeast Asian architecture, nice houses, nice hotels, this is for you.

This is an exquisite book that will be cherished. I admire the architect’s designs that are nothing short of superb. Not only are the interiors stunning in their peaceful, calming qualities, the garden settings are lush and beautifully symmetrical. This book is inspirational - so much so that I will be changing a few things in my own home based upon this talented architect’s ideas.

A beautifully and tastefully presented book on the wonderful work of an Architect who is inspired by traditional and authentic Thai architecture and design. As the title implies, it really seems to capture the serenity and simplicity of Ong-Ard’s architecture. Going through the pages one is transferred to a charming world of traditional Thai architecture and design in a very contemporary idiom. And the book has been presented in a manner that it can be enjoyed and appreciated by architects/designers and laymen alike.

I expect more detail. The book is essentially photographic.
