Winner. I personally tested 4 brands of shoes for travel. All great.
I bought 4 brands of shoes to test them before a vacation. Fun to road test each brand. APL/Ascend, New Balance MT410CE5, Asics Gel Venture 6 and Salomon XAPro 3D. Yes I know some of these models don't cross reference with each other well. I'm looking for the best balance (features/fit) of a travel shoe. There isn't a bad shoe of the 4. Rating is difficult: APL: These are the most supportive with best fit, but they are hard for me to get on as the conform to the foot so well. (My daughter-in law does not experience this, she's a trainer and prefers APL). A larger heal loop would solve the APL problem for me. (Likely rate APL #1 if I could get them on w/o so much effort) New balance: Easier to get on. Foot wrapped a bit tighter. Toe box a touch short. Heal loop a bit short. Asics a bit looser feel. Prefer them to New Balance. Salomon is my top pick. Note if you are in between sizes (example 10-vs- 10.5) go with the next size up. Good support like the others. But, these are the most convenient/supportive for travel. Big heal loop. The laces is what's unique and puts it in first place. Smaller thread type lace, makes it super easy to open up the shoe. No lace drag in the eyelets. The cam cleat is slick. No tieing. Salomon is my on balance winner.

Narrow heel, wide toe box!
I've been looking a long time for a shoe with a wide toe box and narrow enough heel for my foot, and this is the best I've found so far. The speed laces are cool, but I wish there was a way to skip the bottom eyelets. The lace is permamantly attached to the bottom, and a loop at the top. Cutting and retying them at the bottom, or replacing them with more standard laces is the only option for alternative lacing. Comfortable insole. I finally figured out the pocket for the laces' pull tab is at the top of the tounge and you push the tab UP into it, I'd thought it was down and there was no pocket on this model lol. I bought them hoping for the narrow heel wide toe, and breathability plus durability. My On Cloud mesh runners stretched for my wide toes, and had alternative lacing capabilities, but the sides ripped out from abrasion, and let my big toe hyperextend upwards too easilly. These Salomons have more support, and the sides are more protected, but don't breath quite as well, I can feel moisture building up just walking around at the mall. It's better when running, as the air movement penetrates the padding under the mesh a little better. A little too much padding for me, I was hoping to feel breeze lol. I had some under armour trail runners that had tough breathable mesh and without the padding and leather crossing strips for durability, but the heel was too wide and they discontinued them before I learned about alternative lacing to tighten the right parts. These are good for now, but I guess the hunt for perfection continues lol Minus one for steemy feet from too much padding at the toes maybe, it kinda interferes with the mesh a bit. Some people might like it for insulation in the winter, I just wear thicker socks or keep moving to stay warm. Less padding and tougher mesh would be nice.

Great shoes. Interestingly sized.
I have two pairs of the XA Pro 3D; one regular, and one GTX (Gortex). My use is probably not the intended one, as I don't use them for running. I use them for disc golf, which means it could be anywhere from hilly, grassy fields, to hikes on dirt and rock-covered terrain in the Sierras. They have worked extremely well for my purpose.Sizing is not at all close to "normal" in my opinion. My feet are 10.5EE. Initially I tried both the 10.5W and 11W. In the 10.5W, the width works for me, but my toes are somewhat smashed into the front of the shoe. The 11W felt OK in the toe box--albeit still a tad short--but the width was greater than I needed, to the point where my feet moved around a bit more than I would like. I finally settled on the 11.5D. Much longer than any normal shoe I've ever purchased, but gave me the perfect amount of room in the toe box. The 11.5D also proved to be wide enough for my EE feet. Although I will say it's a snug fit, width wise. This works well for me, however, as I'd prefer my feet to remain completely stable within the shoe when throwing, and the slightly snug fit accomplishes this.Over all, a fantastic shoe, but it may take a few tries before you get the right one for your foot size.

Very durable and comfortable!
Great for climbing approaches, hikes or even daily walks. Great grip and tread. Highly recommend!

Bad redesign
Toe box is too narrow. Why would you narrow the toe box on a hiking shoe. The old shoe was better
