Good looking slicer, impressive to use slicing in front of a group
This is an impressive looking slicer, especially when slicing large hunks of meat in front of groups of people. This reminds me of the slicers used at Brazilian BBQ to take the meat off of the giant skewers, or the slicers used for Döner kebabs or Al Pastor. It's a little impractical as an every day knife, as while its size is good at 10", it's not shaped well for everyday kitchen prep work. A 10" Chef's Knife this is NOT.However, the blade shape and length is very good on the draw cut or slice and can handle large amounts of meat in a single pass. This takes down a standing rib roast/ Prime Rib in a single pass which is impressive to watch. The blade is beautiful; I don't think it's a full Damascus blade to the core, I think it's some alloy steel with a Damascus cladding that looks really nice with the many layers exposed. It's subtle, but can be seen by anyone who knows what to look for. The tsuchime hammered look is really pretty too, and is usually only seen on knives much more expensive than this. The blade material itself feels hard, maybe 60-61 hardness, and is very very sharp. It comes with a leather scabbard, which is really for show. At a meat carving event, I can see this being fun to wear on the hip in a scabbard, drawing and slicing. I wouldn't recommend this for Heath & Safety though, as knives should be treated with respect and not as a very sharp and dangerous showpiece. Keep the knife on the board, not in a scabbard on the hip nor waving it in the air. What goes for muzzle discipline goes for blade discipline too.The handle and overall construction is not as good though. The joinery feels rough, unlike better knives which are carefully matched, sanded, and polished so everything is smooth and without any catches. It doesn't detract from the knife's usability though, it can just get annoying when your hand passes over the rough bits; and quality control over the assembly and finishing means a lot when you're trying to sell an expensive hammer finished Damascus clad knife. Overall 4 stars.
