Nostalgia
Ahhh our beloved Kombi. We had to sell it back in '08 because we could not maintain it without professional help. But we did sell it with this book.

Great companion for my new-to-me Westy.
This book covers so much of my 1974 VW Westfalia, I'm confident if I have a mechanical problem, I will be able to explain it to my mechanic competently should I need him to fix it for me.

The Hardcover edition is almost what it should be!
No VW "Bay Window" bus owner should be without this manual. It is essential. The older versions of the manual have color fold-out wiring diagrams, which are far better than the cheap current black and white versions, but the more recent editions have corrections. Get one of each. The older ones are available from used book sellers and on a popular auction site.As for the hardcover edition, I got one to keep as my "definitive" copy, with all the notes from previous repairs. I keep this one on the shelf, as the ones that are in the vehicles (I have owned over a dozen buses) inevitable undergo some wear and tear. This hardcover edition suffers from having the black-and-white single-page chopped up wiring diagrams that I complained above above, but they HAVE included, in an appendix, color versions of these. they are still on single pages, and are still chopped up to fit on those pages (that is, no fold-out pages) but at least they are in color. So, there is some improvement there. But darn it! it falls short of what it could have been. Why can't Bentley put in the full page diagrams?

Great reference!
This manual has been indispensable in my restoration of a 1977 Type 2. In fact, this book has been so valuable, I have bought two copies (after I thought I lost the first in a move). The pictures are clearly printed and the instructions/steps are well-written and easy to follow. The manual is printed on quality paper stock and feels sturdy. My copy is rife with stains and dirt from being used 'in the field.'Generally speaking, this manual covers it all, but there were a few occasions were I had to cross-reference to the vastly inferior Hayes manual for the same vehicle. I also cross-referenced an old Chilton manual for a better illustration of the Oil filter assembly since this book uses more 'exploded views' than cross-sections of assembled components. If you have an old bus - you need to have this book.

it is considered the best. It has lots of detail
Well, it is considered the best. It has lots of detail, but never enough detail. I love it when they say, " use the pitman arm puller and remove the pitman arm...." It took 3 days to REMOVE the rusted 46 year old pitman arm rusted to the steering gear box. Or they just throw in, "remove the engine and transmission and then the shift rod will pull right out...." Funny right?

A must-have for working on a Bay Window bus!
I have a 1971 Westfalia that I am in the process of repairing/restoring and this book has been invaluable in providing me with the technical information that I need. Explanations are clear and detailed and the illustrations are very helpful. I tend to be more geeky about things so I prefer this Bentley manual with it's extensive details and procedures over the John Muir Idiot Guide. The John Muir Guide is a little too generic and cartoonish for me. I also prefer a good hardback manual to the softcover ones. With this manual and the internet you should be able to obtain any information you need for your VW Bus.This is THE book to own if you're going to do any work on an early Bay Window bus!

A nicely detailed manual with plenty of pictures for guidance and clear instructions
A nicely detailed manual with plenty of pictures for guidance and clear instructions. It’s also quite a thick and hefty book nicely bound in a hard cover making it the perfect replacement for the old phone book when it comes to interrogation of prisoners.

The best VW Transporter manual available period.
Having used the Haynes workshop manual for the last three years whilst restoring my 1970 Bay I have been disappointed with the poor quality of its content compared with many previous Haynes manuals. I had seen this Bentley manual mentioned on many occasions on many VW Transporter websites and forums. Now that I have purchased and used this manual I can confirm that if I had bought this manual in the first place my restoration would have been a lot lot easier. The details in the Bentley manual are the best I have ever seen in fifty years of working on vehicles. Also good value and delivery through Amazon.

Essential for any VW Bus Owner
An essential book for any VW Bus enthusiast involved in a build or simply wishing to keep on top of the maintenance and serving of their vehicle. I recently ordered the Haynes manual which was a real disappointment, it being a paperback edition with small print size which is not clearly legible. This manual however is a hardback and the print is clear and easy to follow. I'm really pleased with this purchase for the content and quality of the material in a nicely bound and presentable book.

This is THE guide
This book is the most recommended on American websites and for good reason. Generally clearer than Haynes and printed on better, quality paper. However, be aware that some of the descriptions, like automatic boxes, are only up to 1973. So, IMO, better for early bays than late.

Puchase this if you have a T2 bay window
I bought this for the wiring diagrams and it paid for itself within the first job i undertook. Defo recommended even for the beginner. i also manage to service the vehicle with this book.If you own a T2 bay window this book is a must and was cheaper to buy on amazon than a famous auction website i was looking at.It is set for the USA vehicles but this is not a problem in the slightest.
