Predrill hardwoods and go slow
Finished product us great. When drilling into hardwood like oak posts, make sure you predrill and use soap on the screws. Go slow back in ans out. These screws are soft and the heads can break off.

Not Just For Railing.
These things are amazing. Rather than using them for railing, I used them for suspending open shelving in my kitchen. (Make sure you find studs or use blocking under the ceiling) They have a slightly industrial feel that doesn't present as too trendy. If you don't have studs where they need to land, it is possible to go through the Sheetrock ceiling and anchor them in the attic-- but you will need to find some tiny escussions to cover the hole. Absolutely purchase the accompanying cable and the $29 cable cutter. Using anything else will fray the ends and you will just be frustrated trying to put it all together. Yes this is expensive but I've done this design in mine and several clients homes and they all agree it's worth the price.

This is a great product BUT
This is a great product BUT, it does not work with 1/8" stainless cable. For anyone complaining about the 5/32" cable fitting too tight, you can open the inside gripping piece manually (with a screw driver or other tool) but you cannot tighten the tension screws down as far as needed for 1/8". It will only tighten so far. I made the mistake of trying it with 1/8" cable and wasted a lot of money.I agree with other reviews, you can space posts farther than the four feet recommended by manufacturer, with ease.

Great product for the price
Great product for the price. Easy to install. There is a small learning curve on exactly how to do it the first time. After that it's really easy. When your done after about a week you need to readjust to tighten one more time. One thing to watch out for is not to over tighten the lock nuts. You can strip the threads if it's over tightened. I also found that if I cut the wire with tape on it then exposing the wire it was easy to get the wire in the sleeves.

YOU MUST HAVE ONE SET PER SIDE
These are GREAT. BUT YOU MUST HAVE ONE SET PER SIDE. So I was building a deck and I needed 2 boxes of these PER RAILING SET. They are STUNNING LOOKING but wow does a large deck get expensive!

I don't know if it is that cable is undersized ...
I don't know if it is that cable is undersized or that compression fittings are junk, but either way it doesn't work. The compression fittings are for 1/8" stainless cable and they won't hold the cable at all; the cable pulls out with minimal force applied.- OK, no where does it say online or on the package that these are for 5/32" cable rather than standard 1/8" cable. They work great if you have the right sized cable. I revised my rating from one to three stars once I used the correct cable. They would be five stars, but based upon the lack of information and resulting aggravation I 've given it three stars.
