Orvis Sling Pack (Sand)

As I unpacked my new Orvis Sling Pack and began organizing and transferring my gear from a vest that had given me back problems, I was genuinely impressed by the thought and testing that had gone into its design. This is a product that reflects a lot of hard work in anticipating the needs of the angler. My joy in having selected this sling pack grew as I attached my GoPro camera to the sling and developed my own scheme for storage and net placement.Then I came to the tippet bar. Having read in advance a number of reviews regarding its vulnerability, I was cautious in my attempts to detach one end of the bar from its bungee support. It was stiff, and I broke a fingernail trying to depress the plastic clasp far enough to enable it to be removed from the cord. I tried again and again, and could not dislodge the bar. Finally, I pressed down with my thumb as hard as I could. The snap elicited a mixture of emotions reminiscent of those one feels when a 22" brown throws the hook after a 20-minute battle.The Orvis Sling Pack is an extraordinary product that is so intuitively designed that it will set the pace in its segment of the market for many years to come. To stare into the cavernous folds of its two compartments is to experience wonder that so much "stuff" could fit into so modest a space. The ease with which the pack glides into position to become a workstation, lunch table, or wet bar is remarkable. Most of all, while casting, the fly fisherman does not need to worry about his or her line becoming fouled in any of the thirty protruding or dangling tools of the trade which commonly adorn a vest. The sling sits comfortably out of the way, ready to be summoned when needed by a soft pull on the "easy swing handle."Why, then, would such a fine product be released with a known flaw that could only detract from the all-but-certain universal admiration for this sling pack?Most legendary products become so after one or more key refinements. North American's famous P-51 Mustang could never have made its contribution to victory in World War II in its original form: its Allison engine was ineffective at high altitudes. Not until it was fitted with a Rolls Royce Merlin engine could it become one of the greatest aircraft of all time. Similarly, the Orvis Sling Pack is so good that it deserves a new tippet bar.

Lots of room , plenty of compartments

This is a great pack for keeping all you gear safe and secure. Throw it over your shoulder and your ready to fish.

The pictures show that you get tackle. You don't. I'm not in love with this purchase.
