A nice TV/DVD unit for use with 12-Volt DC or household AC
The TV is actually DC-powered only and the AC power comes from an external converter (120V A/C input, 4Amp 12Volt DC output). I tested each of the "video inputs" that I was concerned with: HDMI, DVD, Digital Cable (QAM format), and over the air Digital (ATSC). It all worked rather well. The fuse blew on the 12-Volt "auto accessory cord" and the spring that pushes the fuse got hot enough to lose its "spring". I replaced the fuse, stretched the spring, and reinstalled it before it happened a second time. I tested the current with an ammeter while playing a DVD with volume at max and brightness at max and still only measured the current at 2.6 amps. I'm hoping that the "high current" problem was just a "low battery" at the time. ( I had 13+ Volts when I measured the current). The lesson here is to make sure that you have a well charged battery if you are running on DC power (and also to keep some 10-amp fuses handy). The nicest surprise was that the TV included a QAM tuner (digital cable). A lot of the new flat screen TVs don't have this and if you want to use your TV on cable without a converter box you need it.The biggest "flaw" with the TV is a very low powered audio amplifier. The sound level is adequate in a quiet room but is woefully inadequate for a "moving vehicle" or even "in a camper during a rain shower". An external sound system will need to be added for full enjoyment.Incrementally, the viewing angles need a comment. If your viewing angle is from "above" or "from the side", the picture is still very viewable. If you are viewing "from below" the viewable angle is very limited. This is OK as long as you mount it to compensate (as an example, if you put this on top of your kitchen refrigerator, you'd want to tilt it downward).

Hard to rate when it does not work...
I was not happy with my purchase. The DVD player did not accept a disc. Nothing. DOAIt appeared the unit had previously been returned as it was rather sloppily packaged. I did contact Amazon to pick it up and they have scheduled a UPS pickup.I did leave one star rating as it was completely non-functional. I will change that rating when I order, receive and test another unit and it works properly. I'm willing to try another - same as one I'm returning - in hopes of getting a new one that will work as expected. It really is a pain to re-package non-working items. Quality control is too expensive I guess...Sadly, that happens way too much with Amazon purchases.Ok, around a week later I did order another - and it does work properly - but 'basically' (see below). However, when I contacted the merchant that sold it through Amazon and explained the problem they responded with a form letter email that said to contact Amazon. No help at all. There is no customer service contact in the foreign written manual and the directions really lack steps and solutions with a FAQ page. Plentyof pages though in a language I cannot and chose not to read...but I digress...I had to find solutions to correct operations through luck basically. Why not have at least an email contact in the manual for customer service? The speakers are tinny and I supplemented them with a highly rated Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker for under $19. Nice to have some quality bass.I need to check and see if it shuts off part way through a DVD presentations will it pick up at the place stopped or does it start over. A decent system will retain the memory and not start over. I just checked it. It starts over each time the power is shut off. Bummer. No memory of place. Cheap system. Did find you could just hit stop, keep the power on - and then hit enter/play and resume presentation.Bottom line - it does work as expected - sort of - at this time. I rate it a generous 3 stars from the 1 star I did give it. Customer service availability, better speaker sound and some memory could have brought on bring on one or two more stars.More bottom line - I would not buy this system again.UPDATE:Here it is October 2015. Sometime around a year ago the unit died. So much for saving some money..... Do you think it deserves one star for lasting about a year?

A good TV with a few drawbacks
It was hard to decide whether or not to try this TV based on the reviews which seem to be all over the place. Here's my analysis:Good:It has both a 12V DC option with an adapter you can plug into an outlet, or you can use the supplied lighter plug to go into a direct 12V system in your car or RV.Lots of inputs including HDMI, USB, Coaxial cable, and VGA.Good speaker volume if you are watching TV/CableGood HD picture qualityEasy to use DVD playerFull function remote, and multiple controls on top of the TV (on, off, volume, channel change, etc.Good price for all the featuresNot so Good:Volume drops dramatically if you use the DVD player or other inputs. I can watch TV with the volume at 6-10, DVD's or other inputs require 20+ volume level. You have to view the screen directly - which I solved by using a fully articulating mount (with tilt). The blacks are not true black. If you accidentally hit the channel change button while watching a DVD or watching HDMI input, it will kick out to cable TV.

My thoughts on Axess TVD 1801
I have had this TV for about 3-4 weeks. The picture is excellent.. We needed it for our camper so the 12 volt feature is important. The set up is easy to follow and the remote is easy to use. The external sound output besides the headset output is a good feature. The card slot is also a nice feature that I wasn't aware of when the TV was ordered. The DVD player is neat as it saves having to hookup another player.I haven't been able to do channel scan in update mode. It starts from the beginning each time for me, and that is a fairly slow process. If a channel comes in in one area but not another I lose the ability to click back to check on the channel later after moving. A channel that it can access comes in intead of the one I am clicking on. I seem to have to do the complete channel scan over. Maybe this can be figured out! This is the only inconvenience I have noticed so far. I would rate the TV a 4 1/2 stars. No TV can have everything perfect, I assume. But the price and performance makes this an excellent buy.
