Well organised but completely outdated
I am a Lonely Planet fellow customer, basically every trip since I begun to travel was accompanied as a beacon by a Lonely guide. I have always appreciated how those guides are organised, but this time I am quite disappointed. This travel guide was released in Aug 2022, hence one would expect it to be reasonably updated. It is not, it seems very little effort was put in its edit beyond copy-pasting the previous edition.Few examples of unjustifiable errors:On p273 and onwards, the guide describes one of the true highlights of Alaska: Denali National Park, and the best way to savour it through a bus trip along the Park Road, into the very heart of the park and at the base of majestic Denali. Unfortunately, the road was closed more than one year ago due to a landslide and any trip is impossible. With any local presence, the news would have surely met their eyes.On p280 an entire box is dedicated to the famous "Magic Bus" where Alex Supertramp lived the events narrated in the famous autobiography 'Into The Wild'. The box includes detailed indications on how to reach the bus through a perilous hike along the Stampede Trail, including possible solutions to mitigate the dangers (e.g. organised trips in ATV). Very nice presented, but it turns out that in 2020 the Government decided that the "Magic Bus" was causing too many troubles (high rescue costs for those in difficulty, some even died attempting to wade the rivers on the path), and relocated to Fairbanks with an helicopter. Needless to say, the news went around the world and it would have been impossible to miss it being on site in the last two years. Finally, most of the prices are those of many years ago (according to locals): expect to pay everything at least 20-30% more.
