Typical Polk excellence
[TL; DR: Great bargain at $179 vs. typical $279. Surprisingly deep, strong lows. Crisp, detailed highs. Brilliant soundstage. Not warm but not harsh. Just accurate and revealing.]I've installed Polk and/or Eclipse speakers in all of my vehicles since 1998. I was planning to install the very fine Polk DB6502 components ($129/pair) in my Kia minivan. When I saw this MM6502 set for $179 (they're normally $279) I decided to step up. It was a good move.My goal is 100% SQ (sound quality); no interest in SPL (sound-pressure level). I listen to all styles of rock, blues, jazz, reggae, folk, bluegrass and new-age. Occasional classical, trip-hop and trance. No rap or hard funk.First, the woofers: very slim and lightweight with neodymium magnets. They're spec'd down to 30 Hz. I haven't measured, but if they aren't reaching 30 Hz they're coming very close, and with great articulation. Solid pop, great punch, above-average thump. No boom, rumble or thunder; you'll need a sub for that. I'm adding a 10" powered sub, because I have an unused one so why not? But I'd be fine keeping these sub-free, which is how they've been since I installed them two months ago.People have described the Polk MM tweeters with terms like articulate, accurate, crisp and bright. I'd agree with those assessments. I compared them directly with several of my other silk/textile-dome tweeters, including 2006-era Pioneer/Eclipse, 2014 MB Quart, 2020 Cadence, and the tweets from my beloved 1998-era Polk EX components. I also tried Audax/Infinity and Audax/Boston Acoustics mylar tweeters. The MMs win in crispness, clarity and articulation. They are as accurate as any sub-$100 tweeters I've owned. They're bright, but without the slight edginess of the MB Quart and Cadence. The compromise is that they don't have the warmth of the older Polk or Eclipse tweeters. [It's possible that the 26 year old Polks and 18 year old Eclipses have lost some brightness over time, but my initial response to the MMs was that they aren't as warm as the old Polks were in 1998, when they were new.]My DSP got the MMs very close to the warmer tweeters without losing much articulation. I'd be very happy with that, but I went a step further: I added the warm Eclipse tweets, in series, to the Polk MMs and mounted them next to each other. The combined DC resistance was 7.6 ohms (left channel) and 7.4 ohms (right), compared to a nominal 4 ohms for each woofer. It's all running off head power through the included Polk MM crossovers.Pairing dissimilar tweeters, of course, is a big no-no: comb filtering, phase distortion, compromised soundstage, etc. But this is a minivan. Left woofer hitting my ankle, left tweeter a foot from my head, right woofer and tweeter two feet from each other and three feet from me. It's not about rules; it's about finding what sounds great. The Eclipse tweets add a warm, rounded top to the MMs' bright accuracy. I set the tweeter-level switch on each Polk crossover to +3db. (0db and -3db are the other settings.) This compensates nicely for the increased tweeter resistance, no DSP adjustment required. The soundstage is stunning, the best I've achieved in any vehicle. Somehow it all works. I built 12db crossovers to keep 3-8 khz with the Polk tweets and send 8k+ to the Eclipses, but I haven't tried them yet. I'd rather invest the time installing an amp and the sub.At $179, the Polk MM6502 components are a crazy bargain. If I had been searching in their typical $279 range I would have considered Morels as an alternative. However, paying $50 extra to move from the $129 Polk DB6502 up to the Polk MM6502 was money well-spent.

Love Polk Audio components
Finally got around to installing these speakers a couple of months ago. I’m a fan of Polk Audio. Not too expensive, good clean power and fit well in every car door I have put them in. These were no exception. I put these in the doors of my 2004 GTO along with a pair of Rockford Fosgate 8s in the rear deck. Two Kicker 8” subs in the side panels and one Audio Control amp to run it all. 100% better than stock and it sounds fantastic inside the car. I wasn’t looking for an all out system in this car, just a great sounding set up that can be enjoyed for miles on end. The Polks can do 125 watts RMS, more than enough for the average car audio person.

Light weight... good sounds...
The crossover is a bit large... but gets low hz.. surprising for it's weight. Good sound quality.

Great with the windows down
These are really designed for people who need high quality speakers in harsh weather and noise environments - hence the marine designation. Its why I bought them for my truck.I replaced a set of Polk DB6501 component speakers with this MM6502 set because the DB6501 set had a failing tweeter and I decided to upgrade. The speakers are powered by a kenwood amp rated to deliver 150w rms to each set.I have a 1994 F150 single cab. Its an old truck that makes lots of noise, and I like to drive with the windows down 90% of the time, even on the highway, so I need speakers that perform under noisy conditions. I have a set of these component speakers up front and a shallow JL subwoofer behind the seat getting 500w from the same kenwood amp (X801-5) that powers these speakers. These MM6502 components run circles around the DB6501. It's not even close. The definition in the midbass and midrange is so much clearer. The downside to these, and any Polk components, is that the tweeters are way too bright. They have a selector switch on the crossover that allows you to turn down the tweeters by -3db, but what you really need to make these shine is a head unit with a tweeter shelf frequency crossover function combined with digital time alignment. To make these sound good, I left the tweeter at 0db on the crossover and let the head unit set the cutoff at 1.6khz with -5db gain. If you don 't have a way to tune these, you will be disappointed.

Great sounding speakers!
Great lows and mids with very clean highs. The components allowed me to move the tweeters higher up in my truck for a better sound stage. The Mobile Monitor series was worth the extra money for the cleaner highs from these improved tweeters.

POLK DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS
One blew and the serial number is not on the speaker so they won’t let me return it.Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. He hung up on me when i told him I would leave a negative review if they wouldn’t honor their warranty

Loud and clear
I have a pair of these speakers installed in the doors of my '08 Accord. They are powered by an MB Quart ZA2-1000.4 (125x4 @ 4 ohms RMS). They sound amazing. Highs are crystal clear at high volume. They claim to play as low as 35Hz and I believe they do. I have not detected any distortion even at volumes that will certainly damage your hearing. I listen to dubstep, hip-hop and 80's metal. Each genre is reproduced accurately. You can feel the crunchy guitar riffs and bass when it hits. Great speaker for the front sound stage. Will purchase more of these for future builds.
