Swinging Jazz: Jazz Piano Solos Series, Vol. 12 (Jazz Piano Solos, Volume 12)

This is the 8th volume I've purchased from this series, and it doesn't disappoint. None have so far. I'm addicted. I love the swing element in all the selections even when applied to tunes that may not have been written to employ the technique originally. This volume is just plain enjoyable, and every arrangement is spot on in my book. Good selection of some tunes whose names might not ring a bell, but most will feel familiar when you start playing.

I've reviewed a couple other titles in this series and wasn't thrilled because I felt only a few titles in each book were really useful. "Swinging Jazz" is an exception. Easy reading, interesting reharmonizations and nice little solo sections. Most of the titles are well-known to the 'boomer' generation and their parents. From the copyright assignments, it appears that several arrangers were at work here, although the basic approach is similar in all songs.Here's the disclaimer: I'm a classically trained pianist who sight-reads well, but beyond simple fills and chord substitutions, no one would mistake me for a jazz pianist. I'm sure these arrangements would be "baby steps" to a real jazz musician, but I'm guessing there are plenty of other pianists like me who need something more interesting than sheet music with a few added arpeggios and grace notes.I'd put the "Jazz Ballads" (volume 10) in this category also: lots of good titles! (But the difficulty level varies more between the arrangements.) Oh, I should mention that chord symbols are included in both books, so it's not hard to add your own touches.

This book consists of many nice song which is very worthwhile to be purchased. I highly recommend people to own one of this book for practice.

I love this series, and I use it all the time. Hoping to add to my collection, I purchased (then returned immediately)Candlelight Jazz, Swinging Jazz, Late Night Jazz,Jazz for Lovers and Pop Standards because pages were inconsistently printed for Kindle and my iPad. Some pages were printed 4 on one page, some pages included huge print credits and entire songs were interrupted by pages of type . When they fix this in Kindle for use with the iPad, I'll consider purchasing again.

Intermediate to advanced arrangements of standards. Especially like Route 66.

lyrics would have been helpful in being more faithful to the melody.

Bit of a waste of my time buying this. I had bought the Disney book in this series where Disney tunes are arranged into little jazz numbers and that one was excellent - inventive and fun arrangements.The arrangements in this book are pedestrian by comparison and frankly a little dull for my taste. Nothing I couldn't make up on the spot on my own. I found the arrangement of "My Baby Just Cares For Me" the most disappointing.
