No laquer coating, *very* sturdy, with a couple of tiny splinters that were easily smoothed out with a nail file :)
Well, after reading several reviews, I tried another brand. All of the pieces of that brand arrived unusable. And were very flimsy. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy! I'll be leaving a negative review there. Should have paid more attention to the ones already there. Anyway, I tried these, expecting I might have to return them too. Wow, no I didn't! One piece, the slotted spoon arrived with a couple of tiny splinters, but I used a nail file (closest I have to sand paper!) to smooth those out. Nothing else has splinters or looks like it will. And they are so much sturdier than the other brand, heck, they're about as sturdy as the tough old wooden spoon I'm trying to add some other things to. If anything breaks or changes, I'll update the review. I did rub the "sanded" spot along with the rest of the set with mineral oil and let that soak in a while before washing and using, but so far I've used every piece except the salad fork and been very pleased. This is a good value, and I'll be recommending these to others. The 4 instead of 5 stars is because there were those splinters. Again, I'll update this if anything changes, since I've only had them a few days.

Great for almost everything
Great utensils. Been loving them so far. Great work cooking, stir-frying, mixing rice to make into sushi, stirring soup, preparing ramen, etc.Try buying this with a matching bamboo utensil holder. They work well together to give your kitchen more elegance and style, and also it's much more convenient than having to open a drawer when you need to mix something. The only downside to these is that they don't come with a ladel, and don't grab ramen noodles from a pan very easily. Good for most tasks, but to get a utensil for everything you'll need some other non-bamboo utensils. Bad if you're a bit OCD like me, and wanted to get a perfectly-matching set of everything, but it's a problem with the material (as bamboo has a straight grain and does not grow into blocks that can be carved, like other hardwoods, nor molded like plastics or steel).

Great set of kitchen tools
I've been using this set of utensils for about 3 month and so far so good. They are plenty thick and sturdy. And they have enough weight to them that I don't feel like I'm going to damage them if I stir the pot to vigorously. I haven't noticed any splintering as some have reported. The most I have noticed is that the bamboo fibers have swollen a bit in random places. But that should be expected from any natural fiber. Especially if you're going to be using these utensils to stir a pot of soup, or forget to wash them right away and and up letting them soak. Some people might consider this swelling splintery. Me, I just call it part of using a natural fiber and I don't consider it anything to get excited about.Definitely worth the $9.95 I paid for them.

good quality utensils
These are nice - the quality is pretty good (they have a finish on them which i think will make them last longer) and they are unique/useful shapes and sizes. the only down side is they didnt have holes in the handle and we were looking to hang them from our hooks in the kitchen. Easy fix- my husband drilled them and now they are perfect! we even occasionally put them in the dishwasher (even though you are not supposed to) and they have held up well so far!

Useful utensil set for a low price
You get what you paid for. I do not mean this is a negative way - the utensils are, for the most part, good quality and design. There are a couple shapes that normally do not come with wooden utensil sets, and so I found the assortment quite useful. And, you can't really beat the price. Two of the utensils I found to be somewhat thinner than I expected, but so far, after many uses, they have all held up very nicely. I would recommend these as an everyday utensil set.

Decent bamboo cooking utensils for the price!
I prefer to use eco friendly items, so I bought this bamboo set. The price was fair, and the items are decent. A few pieces did chip after a month of use, and I threw them out. I still have 3 or 4 pieces, and they are holding up well. I use them daily.

Good Spoons
These spoons are nice. I've used them for a few weeks now and see some small wood pieces/splinters coming off of the edges. This is my only negative thought - other than this they are strong and sturdy. The price is hard to beat so for the money I would recommend.

Great set of wooden kitchen utensils
Great set of wooden kitchen utensils. I do suggest hand washing because the heat of the dishwasher will make them much more likely to warp and crack.Update...I've had these for a year or so now and they are still in great shape. No cracking, warping or breaking. I did break the spork but they was my own fault - I was using it to scrap a dish. All the others are still in great shape and working great.

Good value for money
These are nice quality and very useful - good value for money. I have noticed that a couple of them have burnt at the end slightly - but that is partly my fault for leaving them in a hot pan too long. Possibly they don't take very extreme heat without catching on the end a bit - but really if used sensibly they are very good indeed. I even put them in the dishwasher with no problem. They have a nice smooth finish that does not scratch pans. Useful as salad servers too.
