Phantom River (Columbia River Thrillers Book 2)

Excellent Thriller.. light on the romance
I very much enjoyed this book, but it is NOT a romance. (Unless you consider one kiss a romance). Normally, that would disappoint me in a book but the author delivered a well written book with an intriguing plot. The mystery and action was well written and not over done. And, I very much liked the characters and their interactions. The book itself seemed a little short but maybe I just read it fast. I would not change a thing with the mystery portion of the book, but I think the author needed to add more to the book by adding more scenes with just Mac and Jo. There seemed to be more sexual tension between Lucy and Gary than the main characters. I will be anxiously awaiting Lucy and Gary's story and any other Columbia River Thriller.. My husband originally read "A Killing Tide" which is book one. He enjoyed that book and recommended this series to me. So, the series is not just for woman. Thriller portion of the book... excellent. Character Development... excellent. Plot... excellent. Romance... needs a little more hmmmp. Will I read the next book in the series? Absolutely!

Hard to Put Down
Very fast paced, I love that the story never bogs down on uninteresting info. The characters continue from book #1. I think it's better to read them in order, but could be read as a stand alone. Astoria is a town that I've been to many times which makes the information about fishing and piloting boats very interesting. This seems to be the end of this series, unfortunately we'll never see how Lucy finally wears Gary down.

Okay
Typical stubborn, know-it-all heroine. We've read this stuff a hundred times over. Only the setting of the Columbia River Bar makes the story remotely interesting. Wish writers and editors would educate themselves as to the proper way of ending a radio conversation. "Over and out" is contradictory. "Over" means you're through speaking and are waiting for a reply on the other end. "Out" indicates you're ending the transmission. Also, a sou'wester is a hat, not a jacket.

I was disappointed in this book
I was disappointed in this book. It read more as a draft/outline for a story rather than being the story. Too much is left undeveloped. For example, why is Mac heading west? You know something happened in Boston, but that's all. Jo is so headstrong she's not really believable. You knew who the villain was immediately. It's a poor sequel, if that, for A Killing Tide.

Really good read!
A view of a totally different life - like visiting another country. The characters are fascinating, and the story line is intriguing. I'm looking forward to #3!

Another wonderfully compelling thriller from P.J. Alderman
After having read A Killing Tide by this author and having loved it I immediately jumped to read this one as well. I was not disappointed. Although A Killing Tide is still my favorite I loved seeing the re-emergence of the characters in this story. I hope to see many more works from P.J. Alderman. I am hooked!

Good read
Good read. Really liked the action. Kept you on the edge of your seat. The author is really good at developing strong female characters, and strong male counterparts that mesh in such a way that they complement each other expertly.

Simply great!
Thriller set along the mighty Columbia River. You could say the river is a major character in this riveting tale of murder & intrigue. Life revolves around the ships & fishermen crossing the "bar"...that treacherous mouth of the Columbia as it gushes into the ocean. Many are lost in that crossing, & we all wonder how many ever make it across at all. P J Alderman spins a real nail biter...quite different in plot & setting. Only problem is that there aren't a dozen more!!!
