It’s the best book I have ever read. It’s so good it’s practically impossible to put it down.

Emotional story with a happy ending.
We became the adopters of a Spanish hunting dog less than a year ago so I was really Interested in reading Kat the dog. From chapter one my heart was in my mouth reading about Kats mother. As the story progresses we learn to understand what these poor dogs have to go through. The story certainly made me understand my own adopted dog’s actions at times. It is heartwarming to read that Kat was lucky and got adopted. This book is definitely a “ tissue box” story, but with a happy ending. If reading this book makes just one person look into helping the many dog charities that help these poor creatures, it will be wonderful.

A dog called Kat.
Well! Dog lover or not, you cannot fail to warm to Kat’s story, told in her own words, from birth to maturity. I read this, shaded from the hot sun, watching my own spaniel, Barney, tucking in to a frozen doggy yoghurt, with not a care in the world - while reading about Kat’s horrendous start in life, peppered with cruelty, neglect and starvation. I had to make myself read this book - it’s been on my ‘to be read’ list for many weeks - because not every dog gets the perfect start in life that they deserve and I think it’s important to be aware of that (are you listening, Barney?) It’s a story that needs telling. Kat was so lucky, in that she found the perfect home where she received nothing but good food, long walks, a comfy bed and kindness. It’s what every dog deserves.

A rescue tale to grab your heart and imagination.
This is a gripping story of triumph over adversity for a young Spanish water dog. Kat starts life in a harsh environment, suffering unimaginable cruelties at the hands of her brutal owner, before taking her opportunity to flee. She embarks on a journey that will ultimately change her life forever. Was it because the tale is told by Kat herself? Or was it the author’s skilled writing that set my emotions on such a rollercoaster ride? It’s likely to be a combination of both. The author’s wonderfully expressive descriptions range from guttural and heartrending to delicate and sensitive. At times I was moved to tears; at others, I giggled and said ‘aww!’ – all the ingredients of a great book. Having read this extraordinary story, just like Alyson Sheldrake, I fell in love with Kat too. Highly recommended.

A touching tale
Drawing on evidence and intuition, Alyson deduces the misery of this poor little dog who lived her early years, neglected and unloved, in the poverty-stricken Spanish countryside. It would have been impossible to read the first few chapters if I hadn’t known that the story had a happy ending, but I can assure you that it does.Kat was found as a stray and was rescued by a kind soul who then looked for a home for her. Alyson fell in love with Kat at first sight and we all fall in love with this sweet dog as we read about her life in her new home.Kat joins Alyson on her extended early morning walks and with hubby Dave on outings in the car, whilst we learn lots about the lovely part of Portugal where they live.If you have loved a dog, you will love this touching tale.
