One of the best books I have ever read
One of the best books I have ever read. I could hardly put it down always looking forward to the next chapter. I have recommended ti highly to my friends and they too, agree, that it is a wonderful book with many twists and turns. It makes one reflect on every level what people endure in their daily lives one way or the other.

Great read
This author just doesn't miss! She writes emotionally compelling fiction and it just captivates you. From her descriptions of Alaskas landscapes to her addressing family issues, just so good! Her complex characters are just so easy to connect with. This book definitely evokes emotion. The beginning started off a little slow, and the end felt a bit rushed. I did enjoy it, but I must admit I loved The Nightingale more.

Excellent
Just read this straight through as I really could not put it down. I grew up in the 60s but as a kid I was pretty self-centered and didn’t pay as much attention to current events as I should have. I got a much better understanding of the Vietnam war. Love story was somewhat implausible but overall a great read!

Phenomenal
I have never really delved into historical fiction and didn't really think it was a genre I'd enjoy! BUT, I have just read one of my top 5 greatest books ever read. The Great Alone was the first book I have read by Kristin Hannah and it will definitely not be my last. This story is so heartbreaking and stressful but absolutely beautiful at the same time. I felt like I was living in Alaska during these trying times and that I personally knew each character. I felt their happiness, joy, sorrow, and love. Kristin's writing is phenomenal and the details are so thoroughly written. I'd give this book 10 stars if I could!

Very moving story
This novel was realistic and something I could fully imagine having been a teenager during the VietNam war. I still think of the mother and daughter and hope they're doing well. 🥲

Powerful descriptions of life and love
Another powerful novel by Kristen Hannah. This one may be even better than the Nightingale, which was heartwrenching. The description of life in Alaska is a vivid portrayal of its beauty and cruelty. Filled with love and friendship, this is a story which will remain with you forever!

Another story of a mother who incomprehensibly puts her family in danger
What is interesting in this story is the way the community gets together and complete one another to survive long winters and lack of sunlight. What is not is the incomprehensible tolerance of a mother who puts herself and her own daughter in danger and submits to a man that cannot be good for them. What a character. When there is a decision to be made, you can be sure that she will make the wrong one. Insufferable...

love story to alaska
If you've traveled in Alaska then you'll love reading about the landscapes and people who chose to make a life there. The story itself is somewhat slow but engaging, and long enough to let you read deeply into the main characters. I really enjoyed it.
