STANLEY FATMAX XTREME Pry Bar, FuBar III (55-120)

Watching “Chicago Fire” and all those scenes involving the use of a Halligan Bar left me wanting something similar at home … a powerful, sturdy tool of decent length to pry, hammer and pound. While purchasing an actual Halligan Bar was impractical and rather expensive; purchasing the STANLEY FATMAX XTREME FUBAR III was not only a viable compromise, but a worthy investment.WHAT THE FUBAR III OFFERSThis is a multi-faceted tool. A 30 inch one-piece forged steel bar that is beveled and split on one end with the other end serving as a hammer and board grabber. The shaft between the two “business” ends of this tool is squared, with defined edges that offer a solid gripping surface.One of the biggest attributes of this tool is the simple, but effective design. The almost yard-long length provided ample leverage for most any general demolition or prying purpose. Being a single-piece tool, there is no worry of heavy use deteriorating the tool and causing parts to dangerously separate (like a sledgehammer head coming off the handle). The rather even distribution of the bar’s weight makes this extremely easy to wield.The “striking” end of the FUBAR III is hammer-like with a flat striking-head that protrudes from one side and an “F-shaped” jaw with teeth protruding from the other side. The hammer head is sizeable enough to bust 2x4s with relative ease and the grabbing sized is great for grabbing onto the same-sized boards to bend and break. The prying end has a graduated thickness for much better prying leverage than flat prying bars.While the ends of the FUBAR III are certainly effective in both design and function, the shaft is what makes this tool work so well. Aside from somewhat squared shape of the handle, the shaft is recessed on both sides to accommodate textured rubber grips to be bolted into the tool, creating a flush surface grip rather than simply being attached on top. The grips being incorporated into the bar rather than on the bar enhance the one-piece feel to the tool. The end result is a solid, sturdy grip that is critical when using the bar.While my main use for the FUBAR III is relegated to prying jobs, the striking and grabbing end will allow me to take down the backyard deck rather than pay someone else to do it … I’m looking forward to putting the FUBAR III to full use. While my initial purchase of this bar was simply a whim, I’ve found it to be a handy tool to keep in the back of my SUV … great tool for camping: hammering tent pegs, breaking down wood for a fire and even a convenient personal defense tool.

I bought two of these. And they work great. Stanley has a proven track record of making reliable, durable products. These particular pry bars have a rubberized grip to absorb shock and maintain a good handle on the bar during demolition.The mouth is also used for gripping warped or twisted studs or joists, so you can firmly move them into position and set screws or nails. Well , I'm good at destroying things. Feelings , hearts inanimate objects. When I saw the Fubar III I immediately knew it would aid me on my quest to destroy. And it has. Second day I had it I got to use it to destroy a fence and the fastener points on the ajoining post.Made short work of it. It's really just a big hammer when ya look at it. I look forward to years of destruction to come with my Fatmax Xtreme Fubar IIIIf you want it , buy it. You'll definitely find a use for it whether its ridding your neighborhood of drug dealers or tearing down a house.One year update : I have owned the Fubar III now for a year . Things thing @#%$ stuff up . I have had on numerous occasions found a use for this tool where I never would have even considered it had it been in a lineup for consideration . For instance I had to remove a bunch of u fastners from chicken wire fence line . I had initially grabbed a shovel and some wire snips to do the job . I got through a few pieces of wire and then dug out the railroad tie and thought " man theres got to be a more efficient way to do this . I thought for a bit ....OH CHIT I HAVE A STANLEY FATMAX FUBAR III !!!! . At first look I thought I wonder if this will work . I took the pry bar end and just started attacking the U fastners at the wire and WHAMMM it ripped the fastner out in one hit .3 whacks I ready to start removing the railroad tie . Swung that sum#$^@! at the tie like my name was big papi OOMF it moved , again from the opposit side OOMF one more time OOMF then I crammed the rybardown its side into the ground and leaned on the striking face . Pulled the tie up a few inches and then bear hugged it wriggling it out . Rail road tie was stripped and out of the ground in 3 fastner strikes 3 railroad tie strikes 1 pry and a bearhug .This thing is serious. I bring it with me when I walk . It just feels right when its slung over your shoulder . They say when all you have is a hammer , everything looks like a nail . That is the truth . When all you have is a fatmax Fubar III , everything looks like demo project about to come down . And come down it does.

I needed to demolish to ceiling boards that were nailed to the joists and I didn’t want to use a regular hammer, so I purchased this product. My first impression was that it was very heavy. I don’t know the exact weight but when I first picked it up I was concerned about whether I’d be able to use it effectively for my overhead application without hurting my shoulders. However, I quickly realized that the heft could be used to my advantage. I used the claw to grab the 1x3 wood and twist the nails off the joists. Many pieces splintered and shattered by the torque applied. The heft of bar allowed me to simply pull down many of the over head wood. By the time I was done the project my arms weren’t even sore, but the ceiling was effectively demolished. I also ordered the smaller fatmax bar but found this one to be more effective and useful. The length of the bar was perfect.
