Enjoyable Moments
Enjoyable MomentsPeggy and Macs story was somewhat interesting with her being a sheriff and him being a gambler. The author does a great job developing the characters. I loved Maven's character - sexy and handsome and just perfect. I think she went to far developing Peggy as character because by the end of the book I couldn't stand her and lost interest in her ever finding that HEA. The last selfish thing she did with threatening Mac and his family had me not even liking her or the story no mater how much Patty's character tried to save face by declaring her love for him. Peggy's character was just plain boring. I personally thought she wasnt good enough for Mac. I like tough women but even Tom Boys have a soft side. All the other characters made the story and that was the only reason I finish the story.

Peggy is some lady
The Grand Opening is book three in the Dare Valley series by Ava Miles. It is a good book and can be read by itself, although it is better when read in order in the series.Peggy McBride is the Deputy Sheriff of Dare Valley and she takes her job seriously. She has been making friends with some of the ladies in town which is a first for her. Her life up until now has revolved around her work and her son. She moved to Dare Valley to be closer to her brother so he could give her son the attention he needed from a man. His father has made no effort to contact him at all.Mac Maven is a hotel magnate and a poker player. He has come to Dare Valley to restore the Grand Mountain Resort into a poker venue. He has set up several of these throughout the US and the world. He is very precise in setting them up and does not in any way condone any misbehavior or criminal activities on his property. He has hired Jill Hale to help him convince the city council and others that this is a viable construction and back it.Peggy McBride is totally against gambling of any type and sets out to investigate Mac and find something to help stop the resort. She is determined not to like Mac at all. However, when her plan fails, she is forced to stop and rethink her plans. Then someone threatens the resort and Peggy and Mac join forces to find the person or persons behind the threat. How will this turn out?

Wow
This book has a pretty good romance going. The twist and turns are worth reading but the best part is the humour that sneaks up every so often and in the most unique places. Worth reading. Enjoy

Book3
Wonderful follow up on characters from book #1 and #2. A testament on how events in your childhood effects you into your future unless dealt with in a healthy way.

A continuation of the stories of the people of Dare Valley, California.
These books are an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon if what you want is a light read. In this book, Peggy McBride, the town's Deputy Sheriff and a single mother, is pursued by Mac Maven, a gambler who is restoring and reopening a historic hotel near the town. Someone threatens the Grand Opening, and Peggy must investigate to find out who is the responsible party for the threat. Romance and conflict---a plot line used in almost every romance book. Ava Miles has written a series, which although I rank these as a 4 star, I would compare with Robyn Carr's Virgin River books, which I rank as a 5 star series. If you read those and liked them, try these. ( I didn't find a lot of editorial mistakes in this book--that is something that really turns me off on many Kindle books.) I would say you don't need to read these in order, but it would probably be helpful in not spoiling the plot of a previous book. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Really like Mac and Peggy's story
In the previous book we met Mac 'Maverick' Maven and Deputy Sheriff Peggy McBride. They had already come to public blows when she objected to him re-opening The Grand Mountain Hotel as a poker and all star venue. Since their disagreement they have stayed clear of each other despite the undeniable chemistry when they are in the same room. Peggy doesn't see how they could ever work, "he was a poker player. She was a cop. Oil and water." Mac's family are now in town and incidents with a moose and with his nephew force them together. Peggy still doesn't approve of the hotel and keeps looking for a reason to close it but they start to see each other secretly. Peggy can't see past his occupation but after a fall out and then the wise Arthur Hale's advice, she finally comes around.I really like this pair in the previous book. They seem so ill matched in every way. He's a poker player, sometimes viewed as a seedy occupation, whereas she's a cop; he's a smartly dressed together sort of guy whereas she's all shapeless clothes, messy hair, no make up and mostly in 'mom' mode. He is just delicious, a dreamy male lead and it's not often I find myself sympathising with the man but when Peggy put him in an awkward situation and blackmailed him, I really felt for him. The possible standoff and following declaration outside the hotel was fantastic. As with all the books in this series, we meet other characters, get out appetites wetted before they have their own stories. We get introduced to Rhett and Abigail this time and I can't wait for their story.

Thoroughly enjoyable
Although I thoroughly enjoyed this story between Peggy and Mac, I found her quite annoying sometimes ,her attitude came across quite abrupt and harsh. Although it had a lot to do with her childhood, she seemed to be on the defensive most of the time . But she came good in the end .
