Russian For Dummies

Russian is hard, until it isn't
You're not going to speak Russian fluently simply by using this book. But it provides a valuable framework for making the seemingly inaccessible very accessible, indeed. After that, it's up to you.

Russian Language Book
What I really like the book is the chapter three when breaking down the Russian Language Grammar bc I have been looking for a book that explains the grammar rules when speaking the Russian language. It was very informational and fun to read. It is what I needed bc I have another Russian language book that never explained the grammar rules bc it only focused on the 2,000 common words that people in Russia used.

You won’t learn to speak Russian with this book
Like other books in the Dummies series, this book has a breezy style to it. But Russian is a difficult language, so lightly touching on grammar and useful phrases won’t make you conversant. This book is a survey course, not for anyone who seriously wants to study the language.

Buyer Beware!
While I enjoy and will use this book, a caveat is in order, as I have to concur with the review that noted how the book runs together all words written in Cyrillic. But the content is great. So? What I've noticed it's that the translation does seem to consistently separate the words, and so if you don't see a dash between syllables in the transliteration, but instead see a space, that space denotes where you would separate the Cyrillic. In this way you can at least make the book palatable. The content - especially Chapter 3, the grammar chapter, along with any chapter's corresponding audio files - is worth the price of the book alone, especially if you are using some digital auxiliary such as the wonderful Duolingo app that teaches Russian, because it fills in the gaps, it answers questions one might have about morphology, such an important topic in any heavily inflected language like Greek, German or Russian. If you're looking for a quick and effective coverage of Russian grammar, plus a phrasebook with audio, this is an excellent choice, and I was pleasantly surprised to find value in it, as I already owned "A Comprehensive Russian Grammar", Third Edition, by Terence Wade. This For Dummies book, in conjunction with something like Duolingo, would make an excellent preparatory tool for the more advanced Wade book, IMHO. I got this book for free, with the points I earned from buying other Russian Kindles, so I felt there was no risk involved, but it turned out to be an excellent free book!хорошего дня!

not good for a beginner

Kindle versión useless due to a Major Writing Error
I bought this book hoping to improve my Russian, but I encountered a serious and unacceptable issue: the Russian sentences do not have spaces between words, making them almost unreadable for any beginner. The Russian language does use spaces between words, just like any other alphabet-based language. However, in this book, sentences appear as one long block of text, making reading a headache and learning far more difficult than it should be.This is not just an inconvenience; it is a fundamental mistake that shows a lack of editorial review. A book for beginners should make learning more accessible, not more confusing.I urge the author and publisher to fix this issue immediately and release an updated version, or at the very least, warn buyers about this problem. Otherwise, this book does not fulfill its purpose and should not be sold in its current state.I do not recommend purchasing it until this issue is resolved.
