Makes a nice knife
The steel was easy to work with annealed. It was very strong after a heat treatment. I’d buy these blanks again.

Good Quality, well packaged, Hardens Nicely
This product served me well for hobbyist knife making. They came straight and it was completely rust free. Each bar was individually wrapped which was a plus since I only make a knife every few weeks. I can confirm that they hardened well since I could drill through them easily when raw, but it ate through a couple drill bits on one knife when I forgot to drill holes before heat treating.

Not Annealed But Helpful seller
I'm sure this is fine steel but, as others have said, it's NOT annealed. If you send your blades out to be heat treated, and don't have the means to get this hot enough to anneal it, you will have problems.EDIT: The seller contacted me and offered a full refund, was very nice. I had already sent the steel back, but they were quick to reach out after my review, so I wanted to let everyone know. If you can anneal this, it was straight, clean steel.

Nicely Consistent, Hard as all Heck
It is 1095 for sure. They say it is pre-annealed (normalized). I beg to differ. My files skid right off of these billets. If you want to be able to easily grind your bevels then you will have to re-anneal these yourself. Other than that, they are tough as nails and I am confident that my pieces made with these will be both hard and tough once hardened and tempered.

Good steel. Not annealed.
Good 1095, don't try to do anything with it until you anneal it. Get it hot and bury in a metal bucket full of vermiculite (available in any garden center) overnight. Then you should easily be able to cut it with a hacksaw and file.

I'm Impressed!
To be honest I was skeptical. I thought for the price I couldn't go wrong. With the ability to return it if I didn't like it I decided to pull the trigger and bought 5 1.5x.12 bars. They were packaged just like described. The bars were exact, flat, and straight. I did a spark test and it was no doubt high carbon steel. It's made in China, but so is everything else. I turned those bullets into knife blanks. It took some work to surface grind the blanks to true them up, but not bad. I'm looking forward to beveling and finishing these knives. I will be buying more of this steel.
