Solid fix with easy install- worth the money!
Vehicle: 1988 Land Rover Defender V8 3.5 l Petrol twin carbEngine: Rover 3500 / Buick Nailhead 215Engine material: aluminumReason for use: stripped threads in blockEASY!!! This is so easy to use. The kit spells it out for you. (Use oil or tap grease for bit and tap respectively/ where instructed)Step 1: drill the hole with bit provided (slow RPMs, usually there is switch on drill to help)Step 2: countersink hole with countersink provided (slow RPMs)Step 3: TAP hole with “hand held” tap-drill. (See other review)Step 4: insert Time Cert on tap and screw in tap until it bottoms out. (This is where it talks about the “last 2-3 threads expanding)I blew out the hole as well with compressed air (no compressor- canned air for computers)Aluminum so soft. Easy fix. Square install.SPENDY!!!! $$ But, you really want to do it over again? Spend the money. Be glad you did.

Helicoils Are as Obsolete As The Person Using Them
Stop using helicoils - this is an alternative to them; trust me.

Worked like it should.
Mopar head bolt hole was previously drilled and tapped for larger thread. Rethreaded, counter drilled and installed coil. Worked great. Expensive kit was the only draw back foe one bolt.

Don't use WD40 for drilling OR tapping!!
I'm older than dirt, and have heard only good about Time-Sert relative to competitors. My current problem child is an 88 straight six Ford that's been crapped on by multiple 'mechanics' and one clueless milli former owner. Chasing threads on the block exterior I found the distributor hold down bolt hole with first four threads mangled & very loose. First idea was simply redrill & tap for a larger bolt and was using each size larger drill, carefully by hand with side brace on drill, when the 5/16" drill wouldn't clean up the previous tap marks. Ruh Roh..So my first opportunity to try this product. I was slightly put off by a reviewer that stated the counterbore wouldn't work in cast iron...first thought was that maybe he was stupidly using something like WD40 for cutting oil. Had to laugh when literally the 1st instruction AFTER kit contents is to "use wd40"...BUT then I looked left to the drawing of the contents to see ONLY the counterbore is drawn correctly. The Drill, tap, and Driver are ALL DRAWN BACKWARDS....lefthand...kinda like social media posts when folks use their front camera on a cell, in the mirror, and any message on a shirt will be backwards. I figure the same low or NO experience writer was hired for this pamphlet insert. My favorite Tap-Magic worked for the counterbore. drilling and tapping and I chose a 300*, 0.015 fill thread locker to put just under the top of the sert before installing following the instructions. My hole was 0.790 deep, sert 0.450, and it worked just as the video and written instructions indicated for a blind hole. Sert would only go about 3 turns on the oiled driver and as the bottom threads were being formed the oil oozed up & out and driver loosened, sert top about 0.020 below deck. WD40 was created to displace water & protect against microrust, and it does a great job at each task. I think using it for tapping a critical hole might just be the best way to break a tap...get it almost there..and decide to put every last ounce of power in that last 24* of turn...and snap! It's not a cutting oil unless you just don't have any bacon grease or other more suitable products. Full disclosure; I only rebuild when absolutely necessary, about every 6-10yrs, and torque every dang thing for which I have a spec. Didn't rate durability cause I have no idea how long it'll last...I very much appreciate the logical idea that the sert follows the bolt threads, even though that requires custom tooling! To me this is "Doing it Right the first time!" And 4 stars for ease of use only cause I had to use hand drill with damn small pad to gauge from. Your mileage may vary, Good Luck.

Pricey, but what an excellent repair tool.
This method of thread repair is without a doubt the most expense of the 3 options out there but In my opinion well worth it. The thin barrel shaped inserts remove only a small amount of material to install and their steel construction provide an excellent thread repair. The small amount of material they remove for use is very important when making repairs to cast aluminum timing covers, valve covers and the like. . Cost more money but is well worth it.

Best thread repair kit - far easier and better than those from Helicoil !!!
When I changed my manifold on my '09 Buell xb12ss Lightning Long I screwed the stud out of my cylinder head.Unfortunately I overscrewed it when I reinserted the stud. So it broke and I had to drill out the broken stud. After having drilled out the broken stud I tried to recoil the old 5/16-18 thread with a recoil bit - wasn't 100% working. So I decided to use a 'thread repair kit'. I allways heard from the kits from 'Helicoil' so I checked them on the web. After having googled a while I found a German thread repair kit from 'Würth' which was far better and easier to use.So I ordered this 'TIME-SERT®' thread repair kit and I have to say that it couldn't be easier as shown on the video! For my broken stud on my xb12ss I additionally ordered some '5/16" -18 X .750" Time-Sert Insert Part # 05615'because the four included inserts were just .450" but for the stud on my Buell I needed a .750" insert length. After all the insert does a great job. As Würth says you are not able to unscrew the insert while unscrewing the stud.I recommend this kit for everyone. It is also usable if you have damaged. Their product is also gas and water-tight!

TIME-SERT is the only way to go.
Want to replace damaged threads back to or better than factory strength? Or just need a good, quality threaded insert for your project? Time-Sert is top notch and will handle the torque settings based on thread size. I give it 5 stars, but only 3 for easy to use. A buyer needs to have some skill with tools and mechanicking before trying this. For going into steel or cast iron, take your time. I've gone into steel, but without using the recess tool. Not sure how it would fare against hard material. Aluminum is easy by comparison and creates fewer headaches.
