The scale platform is roughly 6”x8”. However, because it has a “tare” setting I can set items inside a box and get and measurement of only the items in the box (not including the box). I can also get an accurate measurement if the items hang over the screen. The screen will lock the measurement so that I can remove the item from the scale and then see the measurement still on the screen. It has a way to measure envelopes too. This is excellent for items that may need extra postage.My previous scale worked fine. But it didn’t have a screen lock nor did have a way to power without batteries. Because I don’t use this everyday, I like the fact that I can plug it in rather than find that the batteries went dead while sitting unused.v

I have tried everything to get the HOLD function to work. I pressed the Hold button and HOLD appeared on the LCD display. I then put an object on the scale and made sure that it was displaying a steady reading. I tried leaving the object on the scale between 5 seconds and 1+ minute and every time I removed the object the scale returned to zero. I have tried all 5 modes and tried weighing both light and heavy objects and it simply will not HOLD the weight on the display as advertised.I cannot figure out how to change the Auto Off times. When I followed the instructions in the manual to enter Auto Off set mode every time it entered calibration mode and I have to remove the batteries to get it working again. I hope I didn't un-calibrate it. Modifying default Auto Off timing is not terribly important to me so I didn't mess with it further.In summary it appears it's a OK scale if HOLD and Auto Off are not important to you. I am likely going to return it because I can't imagine that every package I'm going to need to weigh in the future is going to fit on the 50 square inch platform.

I got this scale today, hooking up the power cord and calibrating it. I also placed two brand new Duracell batteries in it since the batteries that were supposed to be included were not in the box. After about 5 minutes, there was a loud noise twice and upon examination, the unit was flaming hot and both brand new batteries had exploded and shot battery acid all over the place. Thank goodness it wasn't night time as it was already overheated and may have caused a fire!

I bought this scale to weigh musical instruments... primarily guitars and basses. I collect both and when I go to sell them, buyers almost always want to know the precise weight, especially for bass guitars. This scale would work great, also, for what it was designed to do... weight for postage cost. I haven't used it for postage yet. The zero out feature is nice if I need to weigh something in a box, bowl, plate, etc. The auto off feature is handy too and saves battery life. The heaviest item I've weighed so far was 15 lbs... and it's rated to go up to 86 lbs. if needed. Highly recommended.

nice scale, good cost, accurate weight, postal I weighed of 12 lbs. was within 1 oz. of USPS scale weight.Close enough for me. Second package sent also that close.
