Alpha + Omega on Mr. X
Since I already have the author's Lauda book, had to have this one too since the reviews said it was written in the same style and layout.I agree that the reviews are correct, everything you want to know about Mr. Ickx's racing career. A bit different format then Ed Heuvink's which has a more generalized career overview and many full page photos / commentaries from Jacky's contemporaries. Still, this volume chronicles each of Jacky's official races, from time trial motorcycles, road bicycle events and all his various auto races (Formula / Can Am / Endurance / Rally / Desert and more).Truly a multi talented driver. Reading about Jacky from other sources led me to believe he was a self absorbed / self centered rich kid. Maybe so, but this volume and Mr. Heuvink's bio, reveal that those long bleak desert treks, seeing how poor people live (and are happy with what little they have), had a humbling effect on Jacky's personality and made him revaluate his outlook on life / made him a better man.Perhaps because Jacky's career was so long and extensive, there isn't as much room for full page pictures (just two) and not many half page sized photos, like the Lauda race history. Overall the pictures, though many, are smaller. Five star book minus half star for the smaller pictures.

A very fine book indeed.
Having seen Ickx race many times I've been frustrated that no comprehensive book about him has been written - until now. Author Jon Saltinstall has used the successful framework of his previous Lauda book (using photos from every race to create a career narrative) but this time with a vital added ingredient : Jacky Ickx himself has collaborated and fully endorses the book. The result a real treat for any enthusiast . The production is of the usual Evro high quality ; the photos are well-chosen with fascinating captions. With a preface by Ickx and a typically modest foreword from Derek Bell - what's not to like ?Great stuff ! And very highly recommended........

Beautifully produced book
This is a wonderful history of this little written about driver, who in his day ranked among the greatest and had a long and very varied career. It is also beautifully produced and printed by Evro.
