Disappointment!
I was very disappointed in both characters in this book. They just didn’t seem realistic as a couple. Basically I just couldn’t relate to the heroine. Working a night shift in an ER and going home to do farm chores seems depressing to me. I have always enjoyed Stella Bagwell’s books before but not this one. Only one star and that is generous.

What is This, "General Hospital"?
Workplace romances are fraught with peril. They usually end and end badly. It’s especially bad when the romance is between superiors and subordinates. But, in romance novels, such considerations rarely come into play.Nurse Paige Winters is getting involved with Dr. Luke Sherman. He’s a bit of a curmudgeon and has got a shrewish temper that led to a lot of yelling and nitpicking. Surprisingly, Nurse Winters and the other nurses put up with him for the longest time before Dr. Sherman goes too far one day and she storms off in a huff. The time apart leads them to certain realizations about each other and that’s where the fun/trouble starts. No one tells Dr. Sherman not to hit on one of the nurses working with him. No one warns Nurse Winters that matters could get tense if she and Luke end their affair. Nope, they get involved, misunderstandings ensue and there’s the possibility of a break-up.It’s nothing really new; we’ve seen and read this kind of thing before now. It doesn’t matter what the source of contention is: money, background, lifestyle, children, fear of commitment, distance, e.g. The story isn’t new and the characters are stock.Luke and Paige are more alike than not. But so’s the plot.

The Difficult Doctor and The Nurse Who Will Take Him On!
This was one of my favorite books of this series! I really enjoyed the characters! The haunted doctor and the perky nurse who has put up with his difficult behavior for long enough so she quits the ER and moves to another floor in the hospital to get away from him! Wake up call! Personally, I couldn't see how she put up with him as long as she did! Paige has been in a couple of the previous books and I always felt like telling her to "get out of that ER" and away from Dr. Sherman! He was always yelling at her and treating her like dirt, even though he was a great ER doc. After years of this, she finally did just that. Dr. Sherman - Luke - can't believe it and it's a real wake up call for him. In fact, it changes his behavior completely. A few weeks later, she comes back and doesn't know what to think when he's quiet and almost "human" around her! Their growing relationship was very fun to watch and I enjoyed getting to know the back story of these characters. I very much enjoyed Paige's grandfather too!*** I recommend this book!
