It switches to an energy savings mode, that keeps the water hot, but will not switch off. Turn it off -- like taking it off the burner. Mooshooloo should buy it and be helpful or buzz off.

Q: Does it burn the tea?

Not at all!! it is a perfect Samavor. This is my second one . If you like tea this is the best samavor.
