Bitter Sweet Heart

Having become a huge fan of The Pucked series books, I’ve really enjoyed diving into the next generation as it were. You even get some of the Pucked characters to make some appearances which is always super enjoyable and just a treat.Maverick Waters is an up and coming Hockey player who is destined to follow in his famous NHL father’s footsteps. He’s talented, good at taking care of others, but consistently puts himself on the back burner. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and is kind of taken by surprise when he meets Clover Sweet during summer break. One hot one night stand and he thinks as does she that they’ll never meet again. Much to both their surprise they do meet again, when she just so happens to be his Professor for his last semester of college. Steamy forbidden love alert!This book is a great forbidden love story with an 8 yr age gap. There are some formidable obstacles before the MC’s, but it ends with a great HEA so have no fear. Both MC’a have to deal with some unresolved trauma and if that is going to bring them together or push them apart.I really love how sensitive H. Hunting writes actual real life issues and dilemmas. I think it’s partially why you can’t help but get attached to these characters and this wonderful world she creates. Although this is one book in a series you can totally read it as a stand alone. If you haven’t already done so just start reading everything she has written because you’ll become one satisfied reader. Her stories are absolutely fantastic!

Wasn't sure how this story was going to unfold. Helena did an awesome job in developing the storyline and the characters. Loved the whole thing!

Maverick's story was really good! Maverick meets Clover during the summer and sees her again at college. Clover is shocked when Maverick shows up in her class. Maverick keeps so much stuff locked up inside of him and is there for his family and friends. Clover realizes this about Maverick and tries to help him see this and do more for himself. Maverick is there for Clover when she needs help. These two are really good together. It was great seeing Maverick's family and friends again. This was a really good book and I have really enjoyed this series!

The way I loved this book...Maverick Waters has carried the weight of his world on his shoulders since he was 8 years old. Clover Sweet is trying to carve out a future without her abusive ex. When they meet at the end of the dock, their chemistry is instant and undeniable. A few months later when Clover shows up as the substitute professor for Maverick's creative writing class things get ALOT more forbidden. Getting to know Maverick better in this book, I wanted to give him a hug so bad. Clover breathes life into Maverick's life he didn't know he needed and she made him feel grounded to something outside of hockey and his family. Addictive second gen!!

I am almost always an age gap fan, and this is one to add to the pile. Maverick was a wonderful character- kind & always thinking of others. It made total sense he ended up with someone older. I did enjoy several of the twists and turns, and I look forward to the other characters stories!

Bitter Sweet Heart by H. Hunting was exactly what I needed to get me out of this epic reading funk I’ve been in lately. This novel legit has everything I love in romance, an alpha-male, a heroine that is trying to stand on her own two feet and regain her independence, a touch of suspense, and a forbidden vibe. What’s not to love about Maverick and Clover’s story! I can’t say this enough!! I loved Maverick’s character. This man is sweet and caring, but you mess with those he holds close to his heart, and you’ll see rather quickly this man will do everything in his power to protect. It’s ingrained in the very fiber of his existence. And here-in lies the alpha-male tendency. I loved how protective he was with Clover. And believe me when I say, after the schmuck she was married to, she could use a little alpha in her love life!! This man goes from teddy bear to grizzly bear in a heartbeat. My heart loved his protective nature! Even in those times when he and Clover were keeping their distance, and even when she was so back and forth with their relationship, he was always their for her when she needed him. This right here screams book boyfriend!And now we have Clover. I loved Clover and all she stood for. I also loved the trepidation she felt about diving into a relationship with a 21 year old man. She listened to her heart, her soul, and her brain… and believe me when I say, all three were at war within herself. I do have to say, though, the back and forth gave me a touch of emotional whiplash. I could have done without so many back and forth moments.I’m not going to lie, I went into this one unknowing of the contents inside the story. I didn’t read the blurb, which is something I found myself not doing lately, I just knew I wanted to tread this story. So imagine my surprise when I found out Clover is Maverick’s soon to be professor and that this novel has a twist on the age gap trope. In my reading history, I found two books I read with reverse age gap tropes, and in all honesty I wasn’t a fan of either… but this one was different from those other two. I loved the fact that Maverick and Clover met before she was his professor, and I loved the fact that they did not continue a relationship until after he was finished with her class. This woman and this man showed maturity. Sure it was hard for them to wait, but these two did the right thing in order to protect both of their bums.Now onto the main reasoning behind why I gave this book a 4 star rating. I loved the story, but the moments between Violet and Clover really set me off. I expected Violet to champion Maverick, because that is her son (21 years old) dating a slightly older woman (29 years old). But something about their conversation had me not liking the situation and feeling slightly wrong about said situation when in the long run, they did everything right. I was a bit annoyed with this moment. Also, i wanted more from the epic showdown. I felt like this moment was a bit too fast paced for my liking. But let’s chalk that last bit up to spoiled reader syndrome.Overall, I really enjoyed Bitter Sweet Heart by H. Hunting. I can’t wait to read more from this series of standalones in the near future!

I absolutely loved BITTER SWEET HEART! I've been eager for Maverick's story ever since we got to see bits and pieces of him in LITTLE LIES! I loved his humour, and I loveeeeed his relationship with his sister, Lavender...so I was extremely excited when Helena Hunting first announced that Mav's book would be next in the series...and let me tell you, he did not disappoint!Maverick was just as wonderful as I hoped he'd be! I loved his humour, his heart, and it was wonderful seeing him front and center...and it was a pleasure seeing him find love! Clover was wonderful, too! I knew a tiny bit about her because of teasers that Helena posted, but it was lovely getting to know her and I loved how she and Mav complemented one another! Their chemistry was absolutely on fire, too...definitely on the very, very steamy side...and I have to admit that I loved that about it! ;) Along with their chemistry, the banter and communication between Mav and Clover was something that I really appreciated. They were so honest with their feelings and the conversations they had throughout the book made me so happy. It was phenomenal to get to see them grow together!!! I also loved seeing so many of my fave characters from the Pucked, All In, and Lies, Hearts and Truths series!!! I already can't wait for future books...particularly BJ's! ;)Overall, I loved BITTER SWEET HEART! It was steamy, and packed full of heart! It made me laugh, cry, swoon, and I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend both it and the first book (which takes place concurrently with this one), LITTLE LIES! If you're looking for a fantastic contemporary romance that features wonderful characters, a phenomenal and passionate romance, and a story that will keep you on your toes, then I think this is the perfect book for you! Bitten Sweet Heart is a reverse age gap with so much angst and so much heart, I couldn't put it down. I've been waiting for Maverick's book ever since we met him as a grown up in Lavender's book. I'm a sucker for second generation books and my grabby little hands were twitching for months. And H. Hunting delivered in spades. She just knows how to hit me right in the feels.I absolutely loved Maverick. He has the hugest heart and I seriously can't with this man. Maverick was such a complex character and every layer that was revealed just made you love him more. He's the definition of a pure soul and the incident that changed the lives of the whole Waters family might have hit just a tad deeper and like everyone else, he didn't deal with it until Clover walks into his life and turns everything upside down. Clover was such a calm and centred presence, even with everything going on in her personal life. She was such a strong and independent woman, trying to get out of a bad marriage and forge ahead a new path.The way they stood by each other and helped each other overcome their personal issues, the encouragement, the respect, the love... they were so delicious. I was seriously addicted. And even though it broke my heart and made me rage, I absolutely loved watching Maverick's struggle with his past and future and slowly come into his own. Chapter 37 will bring you all the feels, I can promise you that.Maverick and Clover's connection had this quiet intensity to it, and their chemistry was scorching. They simply understood each other and their age gap didn't even matter because Maverick has this old soul and was wise beyond his years, both a product of his childhood. It was so captivating to watch these two come together, fight their inner demons and forging a joint path for the future.Getting to meet up again with the Waters and the rest of the Packed and All In gang was like coming home and I will never get tired of reading their stories. And after this book, I'm ever more intrigued with BJ, so bring on the next release!

Maverick, his whole life, thought his problems weren't as important as the problems of those he loved. Well, thank heavens we finally got to read his story... He suffered in silence for too long... He is so fiercely protective of those he loves, so loyal to those that matters... And when he met Clover, he could finally be who he was trying so hard to pretend he wasn't. Clover is brave, kind and a soft place for Maverick to fall... He so deserved to find a woman like her.You get some cameos from Vi and Alex, you get Lav and Kodiak, and BJ... BJ!!! God is good to us cause he's the next book! You get angst and steam and a reverse age gap like you didn't yet know you needed.This series has helped heal my inner broken child. And for that, I will always be grateful their stories are being told.If you loved Little Lies, you will adore Bitter Sweet Heart.

I loved this story about Maverick Waters (second oldest child of Alex and Violet - Pucked series) and Clover Sweet. I loved their journey to them finding their happy ever after.

Mav was portrayed as a cheeky, happy to lucky guy in the last book so this was much more angsty than I expected. We got to see that Maverick is a very deep character with a lot of internal turmoil that manifests in caring deeply and putting others first. Him and Clover were very sweet, I think mainly because of him. Clover was also a good character but I think Maverick stoke this show here. Loved the bits of Alex & Violet we got in this.
