Moisture Meter with Instruction Sheet Posted here
I like this meter. This is my second one. Even though I have to pull it up fast to read it from the soil I have always found the readings to be stable and reproducible. I always lose the instructions though so for me and others am adding a pic for future reference.

Not terrible, not great
Decent construction, vague readings. Not terrible, not great, no real reason to get this over the needle operated versions

I bought two by mistake and neither one works. I'm returning them
Does not work. I bought two by mistake and neither one works. I'm returning. There is nothing consistent about them you put the meter in and it reads a nine and the next minute it reads zero. That's for both of them

Horrendous Customer Support & Erratic Product,
Product Greenscapes Digital Moisture Meter - Occasionally I will read the instructions for a product that I am unfamiliar. The digital water meter assigns a number from 1-10. The question is what do you do with this number? If it says "7", do I water the plant? They provide a handy chart that will tell you ... actually, I'm not sure what it tells you. The chart tells you to refer to "column headings" for information that do not exist. There may be about 150 plants listed in this table. There is a second table with information for edible vegetables on the same sheet with the annuals and perennials. I have a small garden of annuals and perennials. My primary concern is a sickly looking hydrangea. Of all of my plants, only 2 were listed on the table (geraniums and a specific breed of impatient though not New Guinea, but I'm not that picky).I contacted customer service to ask if they have the prescribed water meter settings for the plants not listed on the table (I live in the mid-Atlantic region of the US). I gave them a list of 7 plants. They answered me first thing the next morning. The answer was "The meter is for potted plants only". I wrote back, edited my list, told them how displeased I was and have not heard from them again.(1) There is no mention in the product description or advertisement regarding whether this product can be used on potted plants or plants in soil.(2) Why would they publish a chart with edible vegetables and plantings too large for containers?(3) The instructions for the product discuss the effects of clay on the meter. I suspect that most gardeners do not add clay to their potting soil.I took the time to check on line to see if I could find out this information on my own. I discovered that the provided table is available as a reference on a dozen different websites. The Greenscapes company just "copied and pasted" this information, forgetting to include the column headings. Finally, with respect to the actual device, I am finding that perhaps 40% of the time I get a reading of zero after following their directions on how to take a reading. You have to poke the soil a couple times to get a reading. The device is only $10. If it costed more, I would return it, but why bother. I have wasted too much of my time already.

pretty good
This is the second of these that I have bought. Only drawback is I need to take the small battery pad out of the old unit to get the new one to work properly.

Until I got one of these so many of my plants died because I was over watering them. Not any more. I will never be with out one of these and every one who is serious about their house plants should never be with out one either.

Love this! I am now able to determine if the plant is actually in need of water, by knowing the water saturation at the root! Great for a novice plant owner.
