My only complaint is that the outlet tube would fit into the hive a lot easier if it were a bit longer. There is interference from the landing board. It takes a few minutes to vaporize six and a half grams of OA, depending on outside temperature, and if the output tube were even a half inch longer I could let go of it and stand back from it while it cooks. As it is, the hive bottom's landing board makes things difficult, and the vaporizer will fall out to the ground if I let go, so my face ends up in the vapor pouring out of the hive while I hold it there instead of my being able to stand aside. I'll probably make my own longer outlet tube to fix this.Take a small flat bladed screwdriver when using it, to open the top with, or use a sharp hive tool. If one tries to twist it open with gloved hands then heat will stiffen the glove leather when grasping the lid while the glove bumps the hot metal beneath it.

I watched a video that showed a individual going hive to hive with a steaming wand. The product actually smolders like a hot cup of coffee. The bees hardly if at all change there grooming habits. I feel it was a misleading preinitiation of the product. I bought the latest and version. Very disappointed!!!

Didn't work with only 1 gram of acid, very little smoke until it turned off.It appears that it shuts off when the tank runs out of acid.What works:1: You have to fill about 1/3 from bottom of container.2: Drill hole in rear at bottom of hive for insertion.3: insert bottom board if screened hive base4: let heat to smoking before inserting in hive5: close hive entrance at least with a reducerResult: Loads of vapor before the light goes out.Treating from the rear of the hives means the bees aren't disturbed.Just inserted in this hive in the photo, removed after vapor exited the hive entrance.Copper tube needs to be cleaned after each use as it plugs up when it cools. That is fine for me as I'm a hobbyist and I never have more than a dozen hives.

It would seem that acid vapor being injected into a hive is good but it is in the implementation that is lacking with this device. I used a 12V 20 amp hour lithium battery which has worked well with a flat pan vaporizer in the past. The steps are, load the canister with oxalic acid crystals, put the lid on, then insert the tube into a hive, then press the button, a light glows for a while as it heats then the light goes off. An acid cloud is supposed to rise from the tube into the hive. But, it only has a vapor cloud briefly before stopping.So the problem is why does the vapor stop. First the tube is too short to enter the hive through a bottom entrance. I solved that by drilling holes into the edge of the pan under the screen floor of the hives and used the device from the back of the hive. Then a second problem arose, the device doesn't get the top part of the canister nor the tube hot enough to prevent acid crystalizing and clogging the tube. So it does vaporize crystals in the bottom of the canister but crystals are immediately reformed inside the tube and on the lid of the canister, probably because they aren't hot enough. The tube clogs so tight that it takes a large nail to chisel that acid out of the tube.Since it is easier to use than poking the hot pan going into the front of the hive and charring bottoms of frames, I am not giving up on this device. I'm going to experiment with a propane torch heating the tube and shorten the tube a little and see if that gets the acid cloud all the way out of the device and up into the colony.

This vaporizer has worked exactly as described. Im happy with the purchase. The only issue I have is with a product feature. The copper tube where the vaporized OA exits should be longer to be used at the front hive entrance. The heater unit hits the bottom board so you can't get the tube into the front of the hive. This is more of an enhanced request to the manufacturerBut the vaporizer itself works perfectly.

I bought this in the Spring to replace a very d vape. It worked 2 times and sort of worked a 3rd. When trying to use it last night, it quit working altogether. When treating for mites it's important to catch 3 brood cycles. I know will not have time to start tread treatments again. I have two apiaries on opposite sides of my town. Some are riddled with mites. Those hives will likely not make it through winter because of this. Costing me thousands of dollars. It’s incredibly unfortunate, this is the only vape I have found that I can use with Api-maye bottom boards. now I have to reconfigure my hives, replacing that bottom board on all that use it. I have to wait till spring to do this. do not make the same mistake. Save yourself the time, money, heartache and bees.

It feels well made and I like that it has an on-off switch. The unit heats for 2 to 3 minutes then automatically shuts off once it is finished vaporizing the oxalic acid. The product I received did not contain the plastic measuring spoon shown in the picture. I have a scale and measure out the quantity I need for each hive and just use a regular teaspoon.

First impression.For over $100.00 they got cheap on the length of the power cord. Having said that. This device take a while to come up to temp. Approximately 2 min.Delivers a steady stream of vapor into your hive until all the oxalic acid is vaporized..Makes treating your bees easy and it is highly effective. Does not seem to harm the bees at all..I give this device 4 Starz because the cord in my opion would be much easier to use if the cord where longer by 2 ft more...
