Folktale feeling
The kids enjoyed this story immensely...and I did too! Great folktale lessons that you should value your friends and not take advantage of them, and that if you "win" but step on someone else to do it, in the end you'll lose. The bold, unique artwork on the pages of the story and the cover is an extra bonus. This book will be cherished!

Plot, language, and art enchant a child

The Book for Kids Worried About Being "Eaten Up"
What a wonderful story. Every child worries about being "eaten up" (the oral thing and the existential thing wrapped up in the same package). This will thrill and scare the little ones at the same time, but the ending will ease their fears and quench their desire for justice.The art work is sublime and the story-telling simple, direct, and brilliant.

Fun to Read and Re-read.
Great artwork. Story something like that of The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Spider. Fun to find the different animals inside the drawing. Good for reading many times. Always something to look for.

Bonitos imágenes pero un libro frágil.
Se trata de un chacal que va por ahí comiendo los animales que le caen mal, pero al final, su vientre se abre y todos los animales salen, sanos y salvos, mientras él se va en búsqueda de un pájaro sastre que se lo puede arreglar. Los dibujos tradicionales son sencillos en blanco y negro sobre fondo beige y seguramente gustarán a todos los aficionados de arte tradicional. La única pega con este libro es que la encuadernación no fue muy fuerte y las páginas están cayendo. Es cierto que lo hemos mirado mucho en dos semanas con mi hijo de 2 años (a quién el libro le ha gustado mucho también) pero no lo suficiente para romper el libro. Aún así lo recomiendo.

Nice cultural change
Its got the sense of nonsensical fun that you find in good kiddie books. There's no moral really, which was refreshing! This jackal keeps gobbling animals up until his tummy bursts and they all come tumbling out and live happily every after anyway! Beautiful pictures in two tone colours. Kids learn the names of different animals, they can count along and there's some rhyme.
