This is only designed for moquitoes, and emits light you don't want to stare at.
This item in which my hand is bigger than, model number VT-888 (which is under $3.00 on places other than Amazon, but you'd never know because they don't give you the actual model number in the description here on Amazon), uses ultraviolet LEDs which can damage someone's eyes if they stare at them. You know how people use UV LEDs to see if there's dried human fluids on fabrics? Yeah, these are the same kinds of lights (though not as bright), the ones you usually have to put on amber sunglasses to use safely. The item is so small that the aqua-colored grill would simply block a lot of flies from even being able to get inside--thankfully the grill can be removed, but then you're taking a chance on touching it, depending on where you put it. It hasn't killed any flies for me yet, and the area I live has very, very few mosquitoes, so the product's original purpose I can't even test it on, but this area I live has a LOT of flies. Right now I'm putting a tiny slice of stinky cheese right below it to see what happens. The item is advertised as being a bug zapper / insect killer, but when I received the box, as I've suggested, it shows as being specifically for mosquitoes. False advertising. If they had actually written the model, people could have easily checked into it on the web to find out what kind of product it actually is.The review by JennyOinMN talked about having screwed it into a light socket--now either there's something wrong with the review database, or it wasn't even a real review.higgybird and jessye flowers wrote identical reviews to each other, word for word.Unless you're looking for something to kill mosquitoes specifically, this is a joke. It should at the very least be listed the same as what the box says, which is "Mosquito Killer Light Mini Night Lamp" and "Electronic mosquito killer lamp".Also, this item arrived used, it has scratches and stains on it, and once I opened the shipping packaging (which was quite adequate), there was no plastic wrap or anything when I opened the product box, it was just the product sitting in it, no instructions, no paperwork, nothing, with scratches and stains on it.

Its been 8 hours. No bugs zapped
When I got it the box only had Spanish and another language I think. No English. So I have no instructions or warnings. No paper inside the box. I'm disappointed. I ordered it looking at the stars. Not reading reviews. I never thought people would write fake reviews. One review said there's a bottom drawer you pull out to see the dead bugs. So I started reading more and I agree with another purchaser where reviews are being copied and pasted or just fake. I ran across this on another item on magnetic fake eye lashes. Yes I know! That's why I started to read reviews. They are obviously faked as well. I've always purchased by reviews and stars and item is rated. I trusted in them. Just as a heads up, read reviews. I hope the problem will be corrected soon. Just like the just launched sellers. Beware!! I lost a lot of time and money.

Good build quality, dubious functionality
Unfortunately, this product is useless for flying insect control. My wife and I use a lot of fruit and veg in our diet, so we always have fruit flies and house flies in our house in the summer even with lidded trashcans. I've had this device plugged in over my kitchen counter near the trash can for more than a month and it has only killed one fly. ONE fly. I have held phosphorous in front of the light beam and the LEDs do produce some UV, but the flies do not seem to be interested in it at all. The grid spacing seems to be to wide to kill gnats and fruit flies, and it does not seem to attract any flies at all. It is well built. The switch is also good quality. I am very happy with the build quality, but I am really surprised it didn't work for my needs. Especially after reading the reviews. I guess it will work for some, but it was a total failure for me.

I enjoy it catches insects, but not so sure if it's practically useful.
I am writing because I experienced up and down. For the first several weeks it was disappointing. It did not catch any fruit fly, while many of them were flying around right in front of it.I tried several different walls and as other reviewers say, it also happened to me that when I removed it from the electrical outlet the prongs remained in. I had to use a soldering gun to fix it. I was starting to agree with these reviewers that gave 1 stars. Then later it actually worked. I didn't give up and assumed that the light was too dim (even darker than blue indicator LEDs on my modem machine), so I tried to enhance the light by reflecting it to a wall. Surprisingly, it first caught an ant! I did not even know there was an ant in the room. Then it caught small flies, which are smaller than fruit flies and probably prefer a little darker places, and moths. Now it caught 11 insects in a month. It still does not catch fruit flies, which I caught with my own food trap. Now my assumption is: It catches insects that prefer darkness but still guided by lights. This includes moths, small flies that prefer dark places, and mosquitos. On the other hand, it does not work on fruit flies, which are only active in day time and are not so much sensitive to the light source. So far, I enjoy it catches insects, but I'm not so sure if it's practically useful if you are mostly only bothered by fruit flies.

Works Like a Charm
Have had product for 3 days now, and I have only used it at night.I live in the woods, so you can imagine how hard it is to keep out flying bugs at night from coming in the door when you open it. It feels like one or two almost always get through! I like to read before bed, so these bugs flying around me and my reading light are very annoying. As stated above, I've only had at for 3 days, and used it at night, but this little light is awesome! I am sitting here reading, and realized there are no flying bugs! (I checked inside of the light, and there were a number of bugs caught in it.)I am very happy with it so far. I'll edit my review if something happens, but otherwise I highly recommend this bug light!
