Reality?
Nice read, lots of plots, side stories, culminating in a final destruction, leaving a thought, will mankind, ever, get over of this need to control, land, resources, and become, one people one world, all peace, as this book reveals, probably never. Feeling a little depressed. Good read sobering thoughts. Public, all the world living , loving, caring, our lives are, controlled by maniacs, some!

Compelling insight into how the smallest mistake or misunderstanding can lead to nuclear war
This was a very convincing insight into the diplomacy of many states almost playing a game of chess, being open and friendly but covert at the same time. Any challenging action one nation does requires some level of retribution. There were many stories (with protagonists that I began to like and respect) within the main story. I certainly thought I would not want to be a world leader juggling all the balls in the air at once. I found the plot and the characters absolutely believable. Ken Follett must have done a huge amount of research. One character is a beautiful young widow who is trying to get to Europe as an asylum seeker being exploited by a people smuggler. Her story alone was profoundly distressing, but gives insight into why people escape from their countries as asylum seekers. It was certainly easy to read, difficult to put down, even though I knew that the end was not what I wanted to read. For that last reason I gave 4 stars! I suppose I didn't want that ending! But as Ken Follett says we must make sure that it is 'Never'!

Top drawer contemporary thriller that will suit lovers of Clancy or Forsyth …
Scary, chilling, terrifying, shocking, exciting and thought-provoking, are just some of the adjectives that have been used to describe Ken Follett's "Never", but perhaps the most disturbing is plausible because Follett's story of retaliation, escalation and annihilation that follows when negotiation and diplomacy fail and pride and popularism carry the day is just that.As ever Follett's writing is brilliant, well-researched, entertaining and unputdownable yet simultaneously frightening and sobering, amongst his contemporary novels this is possibly his best yet. Mixing three sub-plots and love-stories revolving around a covert operation against jihadist drug running in Saharan Africa seen through the eyes of two CIA's operatives, embassy girl Tamara Levit and undercover agent Abdul John Haddad; US electioneering and public opinion seen through the eyes of US President Pauling Greene; and the stand-off between the communist old guard and the emerging new leaders amongst the Chinese general secretary's politburo seen through the eyes of junior Intelligence Secretary Chan Kai Follett carefully and skilfully navigates his story from a terrorist attack in Saharan Africa to nuclear attacks between the USA and China. For lovers of contemporary thrillers in the Tom Clancy or Frederick Forsyth mould this is a must read, but if you've come here by way of Follett's historical "Pillars of the Earth" Kingsbridge novels then perhaps be prepared to be disappointed, this is very different.

Excellent Read
I’ve read several of Ken Follets books and never been disappointed. This was yet another excellent read, thought provoking, edge of the seat, sorry when it finished. Someone who understands English grammar and punctuation, no Americanisms.Could use a follow up perhaps?

Frustratingly average
Ken Follett has written some absolutely excellent books. He is one of my favourite authors. This book started as a slow burner, but I kept ploughing on, in hope for the story to unfold. In 'Never', he has used two different, non-connected stories.I kept thinking that there will be something in the end that merges the two plots together.Unfortunately not.The cynical me believes each story would not fill a decent sized novel.Towards the end of the book, the world is on the brink of nuclear Armageddon, when the chapter ends. A real cliff hanger. The following chapter continues with the slow, soppy story of two spies who have fallen in love, totally disconnected to the previous chapter. This happens time and again throughout the book... So frustrating!Unfortunately, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book.

Powerful and thought provoking novel on epic scale
I haven't read Ken Follett for quite a few years but when Amazon showed me this book I couldn't resist it. As ever, with this author, there's a fairly large cast of characters, but so well done that I felt I knew each one. Clearly showing how individuals can lead their governments into war, the scenarios in this cleverly plotted story are heartbreakingly believable. I binge read this book as much as I could because it's a real page turner. I'm still thinking about the thought-provoking plot, the characters and the cliff-hanger ending, even though I've read two books since finishing this. A must-read for long-time fans of Ken Follett, and a superb introduction to his work if you don't yet know it.

Not for the Nervous
As usual, Ken Follett has thoroughly researched his subject and has produced another thrilling, gripping tale. It was very difficult to put down. Problem is, it was so credible and outlined just how our disfunctional world could spiral towards global nuclear war. Frightening stuff!

Tremendous
Mr. Follett weaves a complex and compelling tale with incredible mastery. One of the best books I've read in years.

Great Novel

Spy thriller, anyone?
I really have mixed feelings about this book. Spy-action thrillers are always a blast even on movies especially when it’s Robert Ludlum, Tom Clancy, and Ken Follett . So I was excited, hyped-up, and engaged from page 1 of Never. My interest, however, did a nosedive, halfway through the 816 pages. What I 🩷:🦋That all the characters are given a chance to tell their stories by highlighting their storylines in every chapter. I love the stories of Abdul, Kiah, and Chang Kai🎭The complex storylines interweaving threads of espionage, political intrigue, and high-stakes missions💣The intense action and the suspenseful moments, unexpected twists, and constant danger⏳No boring and confusing flashbacks, instead, each chapter relay a continuous flow of events🎢Each page felt like a roller coaster ride of espionage and action. Getting a glimpse of what happens in the Situation Room when war breaks out is a real knocker!🌎The global settings exploring different countries, cultures transported me to the desert, to a war zone, to the famous kpop crib🔪The highlights on geographical and historical stories of the Superpowers, Asia, and African countries plus the inside knowledge shared on political strategies and maneuverings. It’s unbelievably true how people can sell their dignity and soul for their own political agenda and personal gain. Why NOT 5⭐️:- As the story progresses, it becomes slow-paced and repetitive, and there are moments where the story seems to be a drag 😑- The love story of Green is cringy and shouldn’t have given pages of emphasis. Not interesting at all! Tamara and Tab are cute though 👩❤️👨- The story in Africa took half of the book then abruptly ended to be replaced by issues in Asia, then suddenly there’s a chapter to close Abdul’s story. There was no continuity along this area. 😵- Im not sure if it’s just me or there is really NO major plot twist. If there is, I didn’t feel it. The conspiracy angle between the Chinese isn’t enough for a twist. 🧬- The ending is MEH! Not the hanging ending, that’s fine. But I didn’t get closure on the global war and Kai’s future.

Exeptional read!
Follett is a master at writing thrillers and aging he has become even better! In spite of the lengh, I read it very quickly. It's an entertaining read, but makes you also think a lot about what's going on in the world nowadays.
