Takes time to warm up to
Yes the program is amazing however not perfect, great plug-in help however still not perfect. The polypaint to bake on textures only really works with objects that have a high polygon count so flat surfaces unless subdivided hundreds of times wont look good texture painted on, I always figured poly painting should fake tessellation to decrease polygon count. The program blur too much between its different components, I think the 3d and 2d aspects of the program should have been separated or at least compartmentalized. A object tree with basic modifier menu would be really nice that way picking between things would be nice, its feel like the interface was made just to be different. I find at times the back 2d back ground glitched out but it could be because of v5700 fire pro cards fault.Lots of sculpting tools that add lots of fun effect to objects or the 2d canvas. Great handling of memory on large polygon shapes. Export supported by many programs.

Great program, but follow the included instructions, and it's even better!
The software arrived yesterday, and it is easy to see why this is the industry standard. First off, the installation is actually not just slapping the DVD in the drive and clicking setup, they have an instruction packet, and it turns out to be a download for the latest edition instead, which I was fine with. Having had downloaded Zbrush 4 R2, I can tell you that this is a blast of a program to use. Sculpting and 3D drawing has never been more fun, and it works hand-in-hand with a lot of the modeling packages that I have installed. Definitely a good app for any pipeline.

Best 3d modeling software for artists
Although I'm still learning all the particulars, you can start using ZBrush right away after a quick intro vid/tutorial.I couldn't say that about other 3d software I've used.

Powerfully Flawed
There is no learning curve-- it's a learning cliff. The clay sculpting works fine and is a lot of fun but trying to put everything else together is a wretched experience. Alignment help is mostly nonexistent, though I can just hear the zbrush boosters going "all you have to is hang a dead chicken on the rafters, read Revelations backwards-- in Latin-- while doing the boogaloo barefoot on broken glass." Help is often arcane and is found mostly on-line, though you can get some excellent hardcopy stuff from Amazon. zbrush loves to put multiple functions into one item or menu so it's rather like doing surgery with a Swiss Army knife. The user gets lots of options, which means it is easy to forget or miss one of the ten steps necessary to say paint on an object (and have it work.) Which brings up the next big complaint-- instability. zbrush crashes on my little laptop more than it should, though to its credit it usually gets most of your work saved before it takes a powder. Mesh disintegration or tearing is another annoying issue. There's lots of advertisement for paid tutoring courses etc around zbrushland so I sometimes wonder if training is not the main money stream. For what is now $700 or so, I don't know if it's worth the money. It is to me and I'd love to buy Maya and some other high end products, but after this experience, let's just say unless someone is paying you to use zbrush I'd find something else to plink around with. I'd love to say otherwise but there's lots of problems with disappearing textures, tearing models, and other annoyances that I can't give it higher than three stars.

get on an artistic high with this software
Great Software!!! though it might appear difficult to use at first for beginners, There are plenty of vids and forum tutorials...to help offset the learning curves. Just like with anything, just need to spend time and play around with it. Anther good thing is that once you buy it, the upgrades are free. Just follow the instructions.

I think this has some amazing capabilities, but I'm writing mostly to complain that it is NOT intuitive, like they claim in their description of the program. I've been watching some tutorials, and the workflow, hotkeys, and organization for what, coming from an engineering background, should be a simple operation, is ridiculously complicated and I can't find the rhyme or reason behind it. I'm sure eventually you can figure out the logic behind the program, but don't go throwing around 'intuitive'.

Amazing sculpting software
I just bought a copy of the Zbrush 4 but I have experience using it before. Zbrush is an amazing sculpting program and is excellent in creating fine details to 3D characters and objects. I am mainly a blender user and having Zbrush to enhance my characters and objects has really helped me bring them to life.
