BirkenstockUnisex-Adult Open-Back Sandal

I like them but will need to wear socks to break in. The leather is going to require breaking in.

This is my first Birkenstock sandals and I am not disappointed with the outstanding quality of the materials used. It's a Milano Birko-flor synthetic upper. When buying please use the European size of your feet instead of the US. I found my European size on one of my running shoes. Mine was 42 and it fits well. The one sent to me though was N (narrow) instead of M or R (regular) as ordered. N is actually better for me.

Unfortunately, Birkenstock does not market a 47 EU size any longer. A narrow is also rare to find. But I got one brown medium 46 from Shoemall and just received another, a narrow 46 directly from Germany through Amazon. Since three strap sandals are open shoes, I am hoping the slightly shorter 46 suffices.

The problem with this otherwise nice sandal was the fit. I got a 47 Narrow. The actual length and width were fine but the two main straps across the top of the foot, even when set on the first hole (making the strap its shortest and thereby narrowest it), were too long. My feet are not long, narrow and thick! They are long, narrow and normal or maybe even a little thin. I've seen this problem before, and I really think most narrow feet are also somewhat thin. BTW, I once had a pair of Birkenstock Arizonas and they did not have this problem.

I've been a Birkenstock lover for as long as I can remember. If you've never owned a pair and have a good idea for size, I'd encourage you to go somewhere local and try on the different sizes and take notes. If your local shop has the perfect Birks - buy 'em. But if you're like me and wanted a unique color that none of the local shops had at a KILLER price - this is your sandle!Rick

I bought these to replace a much-loved pair of Naot sandals that did me well for four summers but have now died. My husband bought some birkies last summer and raved about them so I thought I would try them for size. I went for this style as they are "proper" sandals with a heel strap and pretty much identical to the ones I am replacing - only difference is that these have buckles rather than velcro fastenings. I went for a size smaller than what I would normally wear - 38 instead of 39 and they fit perfectly in a roomy, airy kind of way. I would say that my feet are narrow/normal width-wise by the way.I wore them out to town on the first decently sunny day after they arrived and they were comfy straight away - my feet did get a little tired towards the end but I had been wearing them and walking about for about six hours by then. Since then, no problems. I've since snapped up a pair of leather Birkenstock shoes at a bargain price - I'm a convert!

So comfortable I understand why people are tempted to wear their sandals with socks in the winter! But am only giving them 4 stars as they are an off-white, which is quite obvious if you wear them with say white trousers. I had accidentally ordered the non-leather version of these, which I returned, and they were indeed pure white. Worth noting if the colour is important.
