When I tell people I work with manzanita wood, they often say "what is that?" Unless you are from the west coast, you probably have never heard of manzanita wood. You know about oak, pine, willow, fir etc., but what is manzanita? Well let me tell you; manzanita is one of the most beautiful woods that mother nature has produced and one of the least known. That is because manzanita grows almost exclusively on the west coast of the United States and most particularly California and Oregon. Early nineteenth-century European botanists first discovered manzanita. A literal translation for the word "manzanita" is "little apple," and it is sometimes given the nickname "mountain driftwood." Manzanita is a very hard wood that decays slowly and can last for decades. It is best known for its architecturally fascinating shapes and wonderful twisting designs. Look closely at the photos of the manzanita for this lamp and the other manzanita projects listed on the website. I think you will agree that manzanita is one of natures wonders. Someone once described a Manzanita branch as having "mighty spirals and a twisted body." The wood for this lamp comes from my home in Coarsegold, California just south of Yosemite National Park and is totally hand finished. The lamp measures approximately 14 inches in length, 9 inches in width, and 5.5 inches tall (without light bulb). It weighs approximately 2 pounds and 3.5 pounds when shipped. The item you receive will be the one pictured here. This is a small but distinctive lamp you will be proud to display for many years. It has a push through switch, contemporary black socket, and long 92 inch brown cord. This is a marvelous piece of California flora that you will be proud to display for many years to come. What better way to express your love of nature? As with most lamps sold, the LAMP SHADE AND BULB ARE NOT INCLUDED!
