nice sturdy headphones
I just got the headphones in the mail and immediately started inspecting them. I was a bit worried after seeing some of the latest reviews compared to the older ones, about how it seems some people are getting plastic versions with very little metal. I am not sure if these people are getting knowckoffs from another company, but the ones I received have no plastic on them whatsoever. The earpieces are metal, the semi-circle piece that mounts to the ear cups is metal, the adjustment is metal, the headband structure is metal, and then the headband structure is wrapped in leather that is stitched very nicely. The ear pads seem to be foam wrapped in leather as well. no plastic here. They sound really nice for $50 headphones (obviously the going out of business price). Id compare them to headphones in the $150 range of sound, and the build quality and materials are easily worth the extra $50 on top of that price. So the original $200 that these used to go for is pretty accurate and worthwhile. It is sad to see a startup company with a great product close down due to lack of interest.I would characterize the sound as heavy low mid's and heavy high's, with a bit of a scoop in the high mid's range and the usual rolloff of closed headphones under $400 in the lows. Somewhat similar to beyerdynamic's sound style. Not very "Sennheisery" at all. So if you are a fan of Senn's then you probably wont like how these sound. I am thinking I will buy a 2nd pair of these while supplies are still available and look into some mods I could do to hopefully bring out some more low end warmth and volume. I dont want to ruin my first pair because the build quality is just so nice. The cable itself looks very good and fits with the design quite well. My one complaint is that there is no marking for left and right on the cable, so you dont know which to plug in where. Just have to plug in and run a speaker test in Windows and then swap the connectors if you guessed wrong. The cable is also quite thin after the split, and is probably why people complain of it breaking after a little while.

Defective Headphones? Defective Skull? I'm not sure which.
I'm one of the few disappointed customers, I guess, but it's certainly not all bad. I think I may have a defective pair or something.First, they are very comfortable. I could wear these for hours, and have. When I have trouble sleeping I put these on and listen to music or white noise or whatever I'm in the mood for. Obviously the cans are large so you can't wear them in just any position, but that's just the nature of things.I like the cable the comes with them. It doesn't tangle. Seems very durable. It could be a bit longer, but then again longer cables can get annoying too.I don't like that you can't replace the cushioned part of the earpieces but I knew that prior to making the purchase (thanks to the fine reviewers here at Amazon). Most importantly: the sound. For me they sound great when I'm lying down or am in a deeply reclined position. Set your EQ flat and it is beautiful. But - and this is really weird - if I'm sitting up straight I lose bass response. These headphones are not "bass heavy" so when you lose any it doesn't sound right. And I can't figure out why they do that. I hold them perfectly still on my head to make sure they're not moving relative to my head as I'm reclining or sitting up, but the same thing happens. Since I'm sitting up most of the time I listen to music, I cannot use these headphones as much as I'd like. I have a cheap set of Sennheisers I bought at a Fry's, and they sound better than these while I'm sitting up, but nowhere as good when I try to use them why lying down or reclining. Still, it could be the way my head is shaped or something like that. I really have no idea.EDIT - Was reading my old reviews and I have to update this. It took an extraordinary amount of time for these headphones to break in. That was my whole problem. I thought I'd given them plenty of time but I had not. They sound really good now.

Excellent Value! Not to be missed.
For the price I picked these up for, I feel like I just got away with robbery. Originally priced at over $200, and the fact that I got them for $30 on here is amazing. I honestly can't see how they are making their money back on this product with the great sound quality from the 40mm drivers, to the excellent build quality with mostly metal and leather used. The ear cups are rubber and the size adjustment point is plastic, but besides that it is all metal and REAL leather.I've tested these over the past 24 hours with a wide range of things. FLAC, MP3's, Youtube, holophonic recordings, Blu Ray, and iPhone. Each medium I listened to had me feeling as though it was a new experience. With music, I felt these were great for metal, classic rock, and country. I sampled some house music and that sounded great too. If you are looking for bass cannons though, these probably won't be for you. And the aesthetic kind of serves that purpose as the retro design sort of serves the music crowd that would be looking for something like these. The only real negative I would say is the lead for the headphones. It isn't really long enough for use with my PC and I had to use a 3.5 extension. However, for portable use with a laptop or iPhone, you should be fine. The impedance is moderate on these and for some things, like games, you might need to invest in an amp for louder volumes. Thankfully on the iPhone, this wasn't the case as the volume was just right for me with the iPhone at around 80% volume.
