"Compost" refers to a group of micro organisms that are alive and that decompose waste material.Things to go in your compost are grass clippings, kitchen scraps, and any kind of wood products that you would break down, as well as, straw, egg shells, leaves, and any kind of paper products. It's anything that has been decomposed from organic matter and serves as a broad spectrum fertilizer. It makes the soil that you're planting on healthy and alive. So why use a compost thermometer? You use a compost thermometer to determine whether the living organisms in your compost are doing the work of decomposition within the soil to create a nutrient-rich soil that you want in your garden. The ideal reading is to have your compost hit 100-130°F. EVERGREEN COMPOST is dedicated to preserving the ozone layer and building greener gardens with eco-friendly tools! We are a non-profit and will answer any questions you have! This thermometer also measures the temperature of food (meat and other poultry).

My dirt is cold
This thermometer works great, but I got a better read when I left it in place several minutes.Dirt’s too cold to plant yet, so I still have to keep weeding... sigh.
