An average Super Drawings in 3D book but that is pretty decent
This is the 51st (16051) book in Kagero's popular "Super Drawings in 3D" series. Like others in the series it is a stapled card cover with 80 interior pages in European A4 (8-1/4" x 11-3/4") format. The subject is a Japanese battleship that served in the Second World War although construction began 25 year previously. The ship is depicted as she looked in 1944.The text is the weakest part of the book. It shares parts of 5 pages with various views of the ship. It makes an attempt to be as comprehensive as possible given those space limitations but ultimately the mediocre translation defeats this attempt. It's tough to follow and it would be best to rely on other sources if available. One curiosity was that the postwar fate of the ship, which was destroyed in an atomic test, was completely ignored. The computer renderings are spectacular as always, giving the viewer an excellent impression of the ships exterior. My only complaint is that the blast bags on the main and secondary guns do not look much like canvas but more like caulking. Unfortunately, captioning is on the minimal side. Interesting features are passed over with the barest of mentions or sometimes with no mention at all. In the latter category is the rather interesting blister on the aft port side housing what is presumably the aircraft crane. There is also an unbound foldout with conventional 5 view line drawings in 1:350 scale and various fittings in larger scales.Recommended, but one wishes there had been a more concerted attempt to make this book a real primary reference.
