A Love-Letter to the Original Series
Rob Zombie’s 2022 film, “The Munsters,” tells an origin story for the characters who first appeared in the 1964-1966 sitcom about friendly monsters living in suburbia. Zombie tells how Herman Munster (Jeff Daniel Phillips) was assembled à la the monster in Mel Brooks’s 1974 film, “Young Frankenstein.” Meanwhile, the Count (Daniel Roebuck) is trying to marry his daughter Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) off to a wealthy suitor, staring with Orlock (Richard Brake). The Count’s companion is Igor (Sylvester McCoy), appearing in a role much like in most retellings of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” but having an absolute delight. Unfortunately for the Count, Lily falls in love with Herman at first sight. Meanwhile, his ne’er-do-well son Lester (Tomas Boykin) is embroiled in a scheme with a fortune teller, Zoya (Catherine Schell), who wants revenge on the Count for spurning her advances years before. She plans to turn the Count’s castle into a theme park and casino. Herman and Lily’s relationship develops, with Zombie filling each scene with enough fun, camp, and pop art lighting to make things enjoyable even as the viewer knows they will eventually arrive at 1313 Mockingbird Lane.As far as feature film adaptations of 1960s television shows go, this one is solid. Each actor is perfect in their role, evoking the familiar characters while also appearing as plausible earlier versions of those characters. Much like how Tim Burton’s 1989 “Batman” took place in an indistinct time, Zombie blends elements of technology, fashion, and music so that this could easily be a prequel to the television series without seeming too unfamiliar to modern viewers. His choice of lighting is particularly evocative of 1960s television, in particular the original “Star Trek” series that was saturated in color to take advantage of the then-new technology of color television. In addition to familiar characters, it’s nice to see cameos from Pat Priest (the second Marilyn Munster on the television series) and Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster on the television series) as well as Cassandra Peterson (Elvira, Mistress of the Dark).

Amazing colorful munsters
I laughed out loud multiple times during this movie. I cannot remember the last time I laughed so much while watching a movie. Grandpa was fantasticLily (Sheri Moon Zombie) was absolutely darling and Herman well, who knew Jeff Daniel Phillips was so funny his facial expressions in this movie are priceless. One of my favorite scenes in the entire movie was when they finally arrived in Los Angeles and the day after Halloween. I really like how they went over the backstory to The Munsters and how they came to America shows them in Transylvania how Lily and Herman met, and how Herman was created. Many things on the TV show weren't explained and I feel like Rob Zombie really went above and beyond with trying to create something original and something that fits well with the storyline of the munsters. I know a lot of people didn't like the fact that the movie was in color but let me say this was a very colorful movie. The sets, the lighting everything was fabulous. This is so far one of my favorite films of 2022. I really hope they give Rob the opportunity to create a sequel to this movie if you are a fan of Horror The Munsters or comedy please see this movie. It's just like the original TV show in the sense that it's wholesome, family, goofy, and funny. There was a couple nods to Fred Gwyne in this movie one being when Herman yells car 54 Where Are You. I absolutely loved that show and I really like how they toss that in there. There is lots of little Easter eggs in this movie please see it. A bunch of haters in these reviews. I myself am in my 40s maybe that's why I really enjoyed this movie the the jokes were a little dry and cheesy maybe the younger generation won't really understand. But the whole point of The Munsters was it was funny!! It was a very funny TV show and I don't know what people really expecting, but I thought they did a great job with this and I gave it an eight. Keep it up Rob, I much appreciate this piece of work. This may be one of Robs BEST films to date.

Camp classic
This throwback to the camp Horror half hour tv show of the sixties was better then I thought it would be. Zombie is the star with his insane horror pop art visuals, which overwhelmed the movie. It’s the type of film where the images burn into the retina. The performances where all effective in capturing the spirit of the tv show with some satirical commentary on society. It was good and deserves a viewing for fans of the tv show.

Absolutely Love This Movie
The media could not be loaded. First of all, let’s show some respect. The cast, director, writers, producers, and etc did an amazing job making this movie. Most of the negative reviews online is extremely disrespectful and unnecessary. As someone who watched the original Munsters series, I agree it is different and not in tune with the original series. However, we live in a different time and the likes and values of our culture has shifted. A younger generation has been given the chance to provide a different interpretation of these characters and make it their own. I see this more as a prequel and I hope more movies are to be made. This was funny, silly, and keeps the audience entertained. I request that everyone give this movie a chance.
