Historical Book that Required a Great Deal of Research!
Interesting historical perspective on a Michigan landmark. We are taken on a journey, mostly through old photographs, of "Eloise";a farm, poorhouse, asylum and hospital through 1839 to 1984.The book does not give us diatribe on what it was like to live and play there, but rather pictures on the everyday lives with brief scenarios of the workers and patients who resided there. Would have given it five stars because I love Amazon's "Images of America" series, but not being from that area, it was a tad difficult to relate to. However, I did enjoy it!

It's okay...
Interesting book but was hoping for more patient pictures and to see how life was for the patients but it's 99% about the people who worked there.

An amazing place at one time
My grandfather died there in the 1940s. I was interested in seeing what it would have looked like when he was there. Lots of pictures and bits of information under them. It really was a city in itself.

I really enjoyed the book
I really enjoyed the book. I grew up just blocks away from Eloise in the 50s and 60s and did some volunteer work there when I was in high school. It was interesting to learn some of the history of the place and the time. I also enjoyed the history that was given of the people in the book, the descriptions of their past really helped put their decisions into perspective. I found the book very interesting!
