The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for an Endangered Planet: 1 (Global Icons Series, 1)

A survival guide for today
An interesting dialogue with Douglas Abram that explores the role of hope in today's and tomorrow's worlds. Jane's achievements are massive. Her environmental, social justice and conservation message is carried through the global work of JGI, Tacare, Roots and Shoots. What is missing is any mention of climate change organisations such as Extinction Rebellion in raising awareness, or the role of Artificial intelligence (AI) in the way our planet is developing, and its future impact on what it will be like for sentient beings. There is an assumption in this book, that we are all born for a greater purpose, other than to procreate. I think we have to find our own individual purpose and meaning to life. This is ever evolving. Jane is a transformative human being, an inspiring activist, and a wonderful role model. But hope alone will not stop the impact of our climate chaos. We must Act Now!

I love this book!
I have so enjoyed reading this book. Jane is an inspiration to us all. Not just on climate issues but life itself. She really is the definition of what it means to stay with something, to find your purpose, to find hope and meaning in your life. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It would make for a great discussion session and text for schools, community groups, book clubs, everyone! The image of her as a young woman, going to Africa alone, without the ‘academic qualifications’ defying the critics, day after day, looking for those chimps in the early days and then developing their trust because of her perseverance, will stay with me for motivation when the going gets tough!

Inspiring and brilliant
Jane Goodall lives up to her surname in this wonderful account of the damage we have done to our planet yet how we can repair it, with her inspiring reasons for hope. She has worked tirelessly all her life for the good of our earth and comes over as a truly amazing woman whom we can be grateful for. Through the worldwide programmes she has established, including her Roots and Shoots for the young, she gives us much to build on

This is about the evolutionary connections shared by all animals and Human Beings.
There are still people who like to believe that they are Humans who are above any connection to animals. If you are one of these and you would rather kill animals or dress up dogs in idiotic ways, before killing them off as an inconvenience to you then you need to read this book. It has been written in an unusual format which gives it an easy approach that all people can enter into. Yet the facts are indisputable. Try it as an exciting extension to your own life.

I couldn't get past the first page
Bought for book club. My first failure to read the group's chosen book. It's called The Book of Hope, so I assume it cheered up later. The first page was so full of doom and gloom that I kept putting the book down and picking up something more cheerful to read.

A good book but my copy was scuffed and tatty.
Unfortunately my copy arrived with scuff marks on the front cover. I'm debating if I should actually give this as a Christmas gift because it looks really tatty! Such a shame.
