If you are an existing tracfone customer with minutes to consolidate don't buy the phone with minutes-it will be a total pain!
This review is primarily for the tracfone service for pre-existing customers. If you already have a tracfone and want to upgrade to this phone and have minutes/text/gb that you want to combine with this phone then I recommend that you do not buy the "Amazon Prime" $40 included with phone. It is better to buy the phone without the prepaid plan for $99 then have to deal with the multiple calls and headache of calling tracfone customer service. The problem is two fold. First of all this phone does NOT come with a card to add the minutes to the phone they automatically upload and will wipe out your existing minutes(a phone card would solve all of these problems amazon)..... so then you have to call tracfone customer service to help you. So let me start by saying I read the reviews and another reviewer said to be cautious and he is right. I thought I would bypass the problem by calling customer service to help me instead of doing it myself on-line. I have had tracfones for almost 20 years so I am not new to how they operate. But this time, customer service was truly a painful, unnecessarily lengthy process.... I had to speak to 3 people the first day(over 1 hour) and one the second day at a call center in India . This is where the second problem comes into play,,,, language issues and/or comprehension issues of the customer service reps. Three of the four customer service reps I spoke to were very nice, pleasant (one was not), and apparently well meaning but they had problems with numbers-- specifically addition of old numbers plus new numbers over the four categories (talk time/ texts/gb/length of service). One rep (the unpleasant one) could not comprehend that 1000 talk minutes (new from amazon) plus 490 talk minutes(pre-existing on my phone I was transferring) did not equal 980 minutes(which is what they consolidated to give me).... she argued with me about this repeatedly telling me I was given the 1000 minutes and that seemed to make sense to her (she seemed unaware that 510 minutes of my talk time evaporated in an instant of non-phone usage) then to add insult to injury she told me I had to wait 24 hours for it to upload (but it already had and she couldn't understand or comprehend this). In the end I waited the required 24 hours+ to observe NO CHANGE in my minutes requiring my forth and final call to customer service. This fellow was quicker and he did reinstate most of my minutes but once again the understanding/comprehension problem arose and so he shorted me 20 minutes of talk time at which point I just decided okay they can steal my 20 minutes that isn't worth a fifth phone call. So.... if you are an existing customer just buy the phone without the minutes you will be happier in the long run. As for the phone itself it is a nice upgrade from my Motorola 3G smart phone but I haven't used it for any calls yet so I can't say anything about that. I have browsed the web and used my apps on my home wifi and it worked well. And overall as long as your phone is working and you don't need customer service tracfone is the best services for pre-paid phones. They seem to have negotiated with all the cellphone companies and thus use whatever cell tower is closest. I have traveled all over the west, northwest and southwest of the USA with my tracfone and my work phones from AT&T and T-Mobile and my tracfone always has a comparable or better signal then the other two. Tracfone overall gets 5 stars this little Amazon listing for "$40 free services" is kind of a scam because the phone without their special is $99 and the phone with Amazons special was $128.39 when I bought it (so the $40 was really only $11.61 of savings) but even a few days later the price has gone up to $135.53 (for a savings of $4.47) so just buy the phone alone it is so not worth the headache!

Maybe the best Tracfone ever. Simple to set up and to use afterwards.
My wife's Blu Phone wiped itself out and would not accept her login number.I have had the previous TracFone Samsung Sky and it has been excellent. So I ordered this phone for my wife. It arrived in two days and was on sale.We have been using TracFone for over a decade. This was the easiest to install.I use my Chromebook to log on the TracFone site and transferred her old number to this new phone. At that time our Comcast business internet went down for a few hours. A competitor while installing new cable stuff took out the Comcast cable. So I figured that we were $crewed with that event. I was wrong. When our internet came back on, I was able to go back to the TracFone site with my Chrome book and finish the install.Within minutes the phone was starting. We entered her data and Google email stuff. For several minutes, it sat on a table and downloaded all of her previous data with her complete contact list.It never down loaded her gallery, and she lost pictures that were stored on Gallery. At first, if we tried to call her number, it didn't work or when she tried to make a call, it went to Verizon. After a couple hours, the phone rang and made some noises. Then, she could make calls and receive calls. The phone's wifi ability to get wifi signals is better than my Sky..Besides losing her Gallery, the only problem is getting a few apps to appear after the phone has been off for the night or a few hours. Some apps like the Wunderground local weather seem to have a mind of their own. This morning it came up when she logged in. Yesterday it didn't. We have not been able to install our Local Nixle on this phone. The phone is very fast and takes good pictures. It has excellent wifi reception and its Verizon 4 glte reception is excellent. The screen is larger than my earlier sky and appears to be clearer.I had planned on getting my wife an Amazon Fire tablet, to use with her texting and email. She said with this clear and large screen, she didn't want one now. She inherited my old Acer Chromebook 15 and uses it for more complicated emails to and from her. She prefers the keyboard for this use versus a stylus. Her new phone works for about 95% of what she does. There is an old saying, "Happy Wife equals Happy Life for the husband!" She is very happy with this phone. We are rating the phone a high 4 now. We never give a 5 rating to any electronic stuff until we have had it for a year.

My J7 upgrade experience
I upgraded to the J7 Sky Pro from the J3 Sky I just bought a few months back. I needed a slightly bigger screen than the 5.0 one the J3 has since the eyes are gonig but there was give and take in that decision. The J3's super AMOLED screen is vibrant with deep, rich blacks making photos and text really pop. The J7 may have a bigger screen but the quality is less since its just HD and the difference is very noticeable to me. Text is not true black--more very dark gray which makes it harder on the eyes. But again, I needed the size so I'll just have to live with that. The resolution just seemed better on the J3. The J3 also seemed like a more quality build in body. Felt a little sturdier. Apart from that the new J7 is quick, offers a larger option for SD storage, better cameras and Im happy with its performance. The extra heft of the bigger battery was something I didnt think of. More battery life but also more weight to lug around in the purse. I got an awesome deal on the J7 on Amazon where the price was already incredible but they also added in loads of minutes/texts and data so I ended up paying much much less for the J7 than I did the J3 so kudos to Amazon for that.
