Lovely low key story!
Lovely non-complicated story that reframes typical anxiety in a positive, reassuring, and delightful way. Great illustrations, not too many distracting words. Perfect! My granddaughter loved it, saying “It’s like I am in the book”!

A must have for the First Day of School or an big event
Butterflies on the First Day of School just arrived and is a crowd pleaser. I read this aloud to my daughters and their friend, who happens to be very quiet and timid. She was smiling along with my girls, and I have the sense that she really understood little Rosie. Annie Silvestro’s books, all of them, are beautiful, fun, sweet and witty all at once - no easy feat! Her mastery of language and ability to make her characters come to life are remarkable. For any child who is anxious about the first day of school or anything else, this is your book! I just love the last page when the mother’s true feelings are expressed. We’ve all been there!

What an awesome book for start of school year.
Ordered for great niece who was having anxiety about her first school bus ride to kindergarten. She absolutely loved this book. Beautifully written and illustrated. The use of butterfly was so delightful and a positive way to turn a uneasy situation to a possibility of positive outcome. Now butterflies in stomach for any new experience gives a her a nice reference to look forward to trying different things..oh by the way she loved her bus ride and first day of school.

Recommended for home and school libraries.
Butterflies On The First Day of School by Annie Silvestro with illustrations by Dream Chen is an ideal story for young readers facing the beginning of a new school year. Playing off the familiar “butterflies in my stomach” description for feeling nervous, Silvestro crafts her story of a little girl who truly has butterflies in her stomach. Rosie begins her day feeling too anxious to even enjoy her mom’s chocolate chip pancakes and climbing on the unfamiliar school bus doesn’t help. But Rosie soon discovers that making a new friend enables her to release the first butterfly that flutters from her lips. As the day progresses, Rosie finds more friends and fun, releasing all her butterflies one after another.Silvestro contrasts the butterfly fantasy against the reality of kindergarten life: meeting the teacher, sharing, painting, building with blocks, romping on the playground, and telling her mother all about her fabulous first day of school.Chen’s vibrant colors and richly detailed illustrations are a charming backdrop for the lively text. Now’s the time to add this charmer to your home or school library.

A touching, uplifting story on overcoming nerves
Anticipation and excitement for the first day of school turns into a roiling belly of butterflies for Rosie when the actual first day of kindergarten arrives. Her dad's assurances and her mother's hugs don't quell Rosie's nerves. But as her confidence and comfort grows through the day, she watches some of the butterflies swoop and flit about. A beautiful and fun way to explain this figure of speech and overcome a case of nerves. The bright, colorful images offer a diverse classroom of kids enjoying their first day of school and making friends. Importantly, Rosie befriends another shy girl, helps her to feel comfortable and free her butterflies. With the most tender and true ending imaginable. This is a great book for giving kids, worried or nervous about any situation, permission to feel these emotions and one way to express it.

Amazing Read
Some children get nervous on thier first day of school. Change can be tricky and fun. On Butterflies on the First Day of School, you can help prepare your child for what is to come. What I enjoyed most about this book, it is written mostly in a metaphoric way. The children can see how the butterflies are flying away while the girl is gaining more confidence as she goes about her day.I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were in no way influenced by outside sources. I am a professional blogger at Little Lady Plays
