I just ran out of my previous bag of barley grass powder, and wanted to replace it with a new brand. I am shocked by the flavor difference between the two brands. Where the other brand had a mild, pleasant flavor, this one is super salty and grassy. Can plants have a "gamey" flavor? Because that is how I would describe this. It feels like it was processed whole, without removing any part of the plant, so you get an intense grassy flavor. Don't get me wrong, I usually don't mind grassy flavors. I drink matcha, spirulina and moringa juices on a daily basis. But this flavor came out of left field for me. Whatever you do, do not have more than a teaspoon with a full glass of water. I do not doubt the health benefits, but it is so hard to drink that mixing it with other powders seems to make it palatable. The less you are able to use, the better. While this makes the supply last longer, I can't help but think of the previous brand I had and mentally reach for it while I consume this very salty grass.

What I usually do is pour a spoonful into a water bottle, seal it, shake it thoroughly, and then enjoy. I use the term enjoy loosely as it has a very grassy flavor and is either an acquired taste or something you just treat like medicine and choke it down. I happen to like the slightly sweet lawn cuttings flavor and the texture isn't gritty or offputting. Barley Grass Juice is grown and bottled in the USA and is organic - biggies for me. I'll be honest, at first I had no idea what to expect with this product because I'd never had barley grass powder before. I know it's good for you, but many such things that are don't taste good. I noticed upon opening the jar that the powder had virtually no odor. I mixed the 1/2 tsp as directed on the jar into 1/2 a cup of water so I could really get an idea on the taste. It was amazed at how smooth and pleasant it is. No bitterness. There was a pleasant taste that can only be described like fresh cut hay on a cool summer evening. But in a good and subtle way. The taste is very mild and it would absolutely blend well in any smoothie. Now I have another great ingredient to mix into my morning smoothies! The powder is very fine, very soluble in water, and has a rich green color to it. You can tell this is a quality product.

This is great for smoothies. It adds a nice green color and extra nutrients and you don’t even need to have fresh kale in the house. It also seems to taste a little less green than adding kale. I have bought barley powder in foil packets before, and I think the jar is easier to use and store.

I love that this is in powder form which allows for a longer shelf life. Barley grass juice powder is nutritious and can be added to food or beverages of choice. Flavor is earthy, herbal and natural. High quality. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
