Small Town, Big Magic: A Witchy Romantic Comedy (Witchlore, 1)

Okay
I won't lie Small Town, Big Magic was not on my radar at all, but saw a few reviews that raved about this book. They all said that this was be the best witchy romcom, but I am here to disagree. While I did enjoy this book a lot, I will say it is not a romcom at all. In fact I don't really think that I would describe it as a romance at all. There was a romance in it, but I don't think it was the main plot of this book. Maybe it was because it was setting up a pretty big supernatural world, or because it felt like it was a million pages long or it could be because Emerson infuriated me to no end. Jacob was an okay hero, but IMO there was nothing special about him. I will say that I did love the rest of the coven, and I am looking forward to the next book about Emerson's sister and Nicholas. I did like the premise of this book, but I definitely felt like it was really long, I like the world that is being set up in this first book and I am hopeful that book two will have more of a romance in it since the world is already set up.

So much better than expected.
I love a good rom com but this was soooo much better. The characters have depth...the story clips along with some awesome twists that were rich in detail (not just added because and editor requested it) and a little mystery. I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend.

One of my new favorites!
Idyllic. Colorful. Funny, but not bust a gut. Romantic, but not cheesy. Initially I was like, did I buy a Hallmark Movie book? But it’s almost like that’s what the author wants you to think, until you’re so sucked in that you’re staying up until the crack of dawn to finish—only to be left yelling in frustration because it ends on an amazing cliffhanger and all you want to know is when book 2 comes out!!

I loved this book
Many years ago, Emerson Wilde had her magical memory erased. She had no idea her friends were witches and the town where she lives is was full of them too. And the biggest surprise of all is Emerson herself is a witch who comes from a long line of powerful witches. When Emerson is attacked and she unknowingly performs a spell, her friends finally tell her the truth. Emerson immediately finds herself involved in the world of witches when she is needed to help ward off the eminent danger that is coming to St. Cyprian. There is also a romance in this story too. Emerson realizes one of her good friends and her went meant to be together. I enjoyed seeing how her and Jacob found their way to each other.I was really surprised by this book. I loved it. I couldn’t get enough of it. The only drawback is it does end in a slight cliffhanger, but the main part of the story wraps up. I can’t wait to get the next book in my hands to read it and see what happens next.

Cozy October Read
I just finished this book, and it was exactly what I was looking for: a cozy, witchy, wholesome October read. The small-town setting of St. Cyprius was described beautifully, and I felt as if I were strolling all over the town right along with the main character, Emerson. Emerson was a well-developed character, with the book largely reading as Emerson's stream of consciousness, which worked well for the book. I do wish that the side characters had been more well-developed; as it stands, they were a bit standard and bland. The romance in this book could have also been a bit more detailed, as Emerson's love interest seemed very "run of the mill." Still, this was absolutely an enjoyable read and I am looking forward to the second book.

Something witchy this way comes
Emerson Wilde is annoyingly organized. She has planners for everything. She even drops off planners for other people. She is also the highly motivated leader of the chamber of commerce in the small town of St. Cyprian, Missouri. She lives and breathes for the town. She lives in the family home that can trace its roots back to Salem, Massachusetts. She surrounds herself with friends she’s had all her life. When her grandmother passed away and left the house to her, her parents left to tour Europe and her sister (born on the last day of the same year in which she was born on the first day) took off for parts unknown never to be heard from again. Things are starting to get weird and she feels her beloved town is headed for a world of trouble. Will she be able to figure out the secret to fixing it before it’s too late?

A brilliant start to an exciting new series!
The magical world of St Cyprian is one readers will never want to leave. Small Town, Big Magic is an absolute triumph of a debut. Sparking with humor, romance, and thrillingly gothic danger, it had me hooked from the first page and kept me turning pages all night. Emerson is a glorious heroine and Jacob is her perfect match in every way—a gorgeous, perfect romance hero who compliments and adores the strength in his heroine. In this first book in the new Witchlore series, Hazel Beck has created the perfect blend of magic, humor, world-ending peril, friendship and romance, and brewed into a spellbinding combination that readers will adore, and that will have them desperate for the next book!

Loved it! Am not so patiently waiting for the sequel!
Such a charming book, it has all the magic ingredients a great story needs. I couldn't put it down and I wish I could wave a wand and have the next book already!

wow… worst book ever!
I read this as my final selection for spooky month. Truly terrible , it is not a romantic comedy at all. The main character is basically a Karen with literally no redeeming qualities. You hope she will change into someone likeable after she gets the much hyped D., but nope! The authors even manages to ruin the two potential steamy bits with having the protagonist start spouting off about women’s rights. Don’t get me wrong, I’m for equality, but please . If the Authors profile in the write up doesn’t fully give you the ick, this book may be for you. Don’t waste your time , Small Town, Big disappointment .
