Resin Jewelry-Great information!
I have not read all of this book yet, but I have looked at it and skimmed some of the chapters. I think it will be a wonderful source of information. The pictures of some artwork are nice and show some of the possibilities of what you can do with resin. This is not a project book, but a technical explanation of resin. For those who want to delve into an exploration of resin, this book will be of great help.

Beautiful pictures, but not a how to book
The book definitley shows modern and beautiful pictures of resin jewelry. Even though it explains resin history, safety precautions and some useful tips, its more suitable for advanced o experts. I was hoping for a how to book, so I dont recommend it for begginers.Since the description does not say it, its a soft cover, medium sized book.

Resin Jewelry, not what I expected
I bought the book (without a chance to see the content)thinking it was about how to make jewelry with resin (I thought the title implied it), it is not. The title I guess should be called something like "All about resin/plastics and their properties and applications".Of course I expected an intro and a review of the product and accessories, but I also expected some 'how to' chapters. If I had had access to the ToC, I might have guessed this book was not for me.It is about resins itself, history, chemical compositions, making of moulds & masters, health hazards (good job on safety), storage, materials that can be used with resins, finishing, what 'can' be done with resin. For someone like me who is interested in dipping my toes in making resin jewelry, reading the book was like listening to someone who is an expert on something and was talking over my head. I found the book very 'technical' and dry. There's little explanations provided on statements that would be unfamiliar to a rookie. An example is, it says on p81 that metals should be sealed but does not say with what. On p94 it indicates that silver should be treated and shows examples on pieces where oxidation occured afterwards, but it does not say what kind of treatment should be used to avoid oxidation. I would very much have liked to know.Certainly there are photos but not so much for the purpose of explaining, except in mixing and mould making. Mostly the photos are gallery/examples, which while very inspiring are not helpful.Although the back cover indicates "...a pratical book that will also encourage & inspire all those who would like to make jewelry in resin", this book does not inspire, it is more for people who are already familiar with resin to provide advanced knowledge on this medium.Mireille Dalpé PrazeresOttawa, ON, Canada

Artsy craftsy book about resin jewellery
Although this book is interesting in parts, with a section on history of plastic etc. (If that interests you at all) all of the work and techniques etc. shown are from the 80s/90s and early 2000s. It is not an instructional, comprehensive 'how to' book for anyone beginning to make resin jewellery, perhaps that was my own mistake when purchasing it. I also felt the book was overpriced considering it was published in 2002, and subsequently have seen it cheaper elsewhere. If you want an arty, Crafts Council book on resin 'objets d'art' this is for you. If you're a beginner who wants to make resin jewellery - go online, there's loads of free stuff out there!

a good source of inspiration
There are some lovely photos in this book and it is very informative. Good value for money and arrived less than twelve hours after i'd ordered it! Thsi isn't a book for teaching yourself from- you'd need some additional onformation to get you going and the criticisms by other reviewers that there are no projects are valid but then again this one doesn't advertise itself as offering that and its worth it for the rpice to buy as an inspirational additon and source to look at for detailed information. It would be most useful for students of jewellery and makers with basic grasp of moulding techniques.

Technical info
The book is full of technical and health & safety info, how to make moulds, and the history of plastics and resin. There are some pretty photos of stuff experts have made (if you want to be inspired). It's really a technical book and not a book if you want to have step by step easy projects to follow.
