Not a generic filter.
These work great at keeping dust out of the inside of the unit. The outside edge of the filter has a small foam gasket to keep dust from getting inside the housing of the unit around the outside edges like most filters. It's worth the extra expense not to have to take apart the unit once a year from dust that sneaks in. Cleanest unit I have ever owned thanks to the extra edging on the filter and the super perfect fit. No slop.

Not the same as is pictured
The filter that was shipped was not the one pictured. It is not the Vornado MD1-0022 hepa filter that is shipped by Crucial, it is a poor substitute for the original.
