The Red Tales
The true story of the 399th Squadron and the 99th Wing Also known as the Tuskegee Airmen my complements to Steven Spielberg for being a driving force behind this project the entire cast and crew did an extraordinary job in telling this important story of Black and American History in the defeating of the Axis Powers during World War IIEven with the white washing of Black History that's presently going on in America

Excellent movie.
This movie has great action in the air and tells an important part of U.S.A.F. history in WWII. The role of black men, or "negroes" as the movie states, in the Air Force in Europe. It takes up a part of the tale that "The Tuskeegee Airmen" does not go into as much depth on, as well as "Harts War" that expands the story of negroe Prisoners of War in Europe and the racism they met in the camps after winning so much valor in the sky.

Historically accurate
Great plot on what the Negro pilots had to endure before they were given better aircraft to fly. Cast was well played and air footage was done very well!

PROVING A POINT--SKIN COLOR DOESN'T MAKE THE MAN
CGI was great. I remember the scenes in the old war movies, and how ridiculous they looked. The only problem with CGI usually is crowding too many planes into the scene. One historical error in the combat scenes in this film was the flights of fighters flying in close formation with the bombers. All the combat footage I've seen is the fighter escort flying at higher altitudes and weaving back and forth to stay with the slower-moving bombers. I'm only 88+, so I wasn't in WW 2, but I got to hand to these guys that were flying. Immediately after the war, the Army Air Force visited our small town airports with most of the planes (the used combat plane used in combat), and we could climb in them. I still remember the smell of sweat in both of those planes--the B-17 and the P-51. So those 18-20+year old guys all must have experienced some very tense moments. Mechanically the piston-driven engines were good in that day, but they were nothing like today's jets. Many if not most of the B-17s were made by Boeing in Seattle, WA, and they flew them cross-country to the East Coast and then overseas. They had airbases as close as 300-400 miles I have two older brothers that were in the war.I love my country, the U.S.A., all my brothers, and my son spent their lives in the military and fought in her wars--one brother, an 11 Airbourne paraglider trooper, was KIA in the Philippines.I wholeheartedly believe in our Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights, and the U.S. Constitution, and I am a Christian Gospel Worker and former pastor. I also grew up in the Northwest. Then in 1951, I moved to Dallas, Texas, and discovered the great people of the "Bible Belt." But sadly I also discovered enforced segregation and colored bathrooms. In the times of these black fighter pilots, the way blacks were usually treated, even by Christians, is really shameful. So, it is much to their credit that the fighter pilots went through all training and risked their lives as they did is amazing. That these pilots received unit commendations awards and glowing praise from bomber crews is even more amazing

A Fun Historical Movie that will Inspire People to Research the Tuskegee Airmen
George Lucas first began developing the story for “Red Tails” in 1988 and Lucasfilm eventually released this film in 2012, directed by Anthony Hemingway using a screenplay by John Ridley and Aaron McGruder. The film was the first non-Star Wars or Indiana Jones film from Lucasfilm since “Radioland Murders” in 1994. The story focuses on African-American U.S. Army Air Force pilots who completed training at Tuskegee and are about to go into combat in Italy, focusing on the pilots’ struggles against racism on the ground and against the German Luftwaffe in the sky. The Tuskegee airmen fly American P-51 Mustangs with red tail paint, thereby giving the unit its nickname, as they escort B-17 Flying Fortress bombers on their missions. Terrence Howard portrays Col. A.J. Bullard, who oversees the unit, while Cuba Gooding, Jr. portrays Major Emanuel Stance, Bullard’s second. Through the characters Easy (Nate Parker) and Ray Gun (Tristan Wilds), director Hemingway examines the effects of PTSD on combat pilots and the experience of POWs in German camps, while Lightning (David Oyelowo) offers an opportunity to portray relationships between Italians and African-American G.I.s.Like many movies portraying history, the film condenses certain events and characters in order to tell a coherent narrative. The cast is simply amazing, including Leslie Odom, Jr., Method Man, Michael B. Jordan, and Bryan Cranston as well as those I previously mentioned. The aerial combat scenes are well-executed, but purists may not like that Lucas chose to execute them with CGI rather than actual planes (see for comparison, Michael Caton-Jones’s 1990 film, “Memphis Belle”). At times, the CGI looks more like well-made game footage and hasn’t retained its verisimilitude since 2012. Though the film takes liberties with history, it’s an enjoyable story that will help get filmgoers interested in researching the real history of the Tuskegee Airmen. In tone, it recalls other World War II movies featuring a ensemble casts that distill some core messages of the war for viewers, like “The Great Escape,” “The Longest Day,” or “Tora! Tora! Tora!” This should come as no surprise, since George Lucas has discussed his love of World War II pictures and how aerial combat footage inspired his filming technique on “Star Wars.”Bonus features on this Blu-ray combo pack include the documentary, “Double Victory: The Tuskegee Airmen at War,” as well as looks at George Lucas as executive producer, Anthony Hemingway as director, Terence Blanchard as composer, and the cast. Finally, a movie magic section examines the effects used to tell the story.

Red Tails DVD
I have been actively looking for this DVD for sometime and delighted with the quality and prompt delivery that Amazon have provided. This is a historical WW2 movie that has not been promoted to its best informative actions of the Squadron as of many others of that time.
