Cole's SA05 Safflower Bird Seed, 5-Pound

To say the birds of all kinds love it is an understatement! Usually if I have to switch the food I've been giving them, it takes them a couple of days to acclimate. They were on this in less that 5 minutes and haven't stopped since. I always had a lot of birds but they seem to have called all their relatives~lol.Is it pricey for only 5 pounds? It is. Is it worth every penny? It is. And like most people have said, the squirrels don't like it. So if you take into consideration how much of the other bird food the squirrels ate, this is a better deal by far!I highly recommend and apparently so do the birds!!

I bought this product because I had to take down my bird feeders due to cow birds. I have 2 large feeders that I keep filled with sunflower seeds and cracked corn. I have other ways to feed some of the other birds (suet and thistle bags) but the cardinals were going without. I had read that cardinals liked safflower seeds and cow birds did not and while it is expensive I thought I would try it. And the good news is the cow birds and even the occasional squirrel doesn’t like the safflower neither does the cardinals. Maybe they are just spoiled but thought I would write this review. Update- after a week the cardinals are eating the safflower.....guess they realized they weren’t getting the sunflower and corn. And still The cowbirds stay away from the feeder.

There is something about this product that makes it superior than other safflower seeds. It seems whiter, more uniform in color and there is an odor with other safflower seed that I do not detect with this seed. It just seems fresher and maybe it is. The only recommendation is there are some products with a thicker plastic bag with a good re-sealer. And the other thing is you pay more for your product, probably due to the attributes. I buy it periodically due to the up price.

Product arrived on time, packaged as pictured. Our turtle dove loves this type of seed and we add it to his regular seed mix. He can be picky as he is around 18 years old, but he seems to like this brand. We have never tried this brand before but this looks like a good fit.

Was very impressed the look and freshness of the seed. It drew the cardinals, black capped Chickadees, juncos, and Tufted titmouse within 24 hrs.So far no squirrels or any of the jays, starlings, and grackles have tried to interfere with their feeding.Twice the price of Wagner's but I think this is better quality. We only feed during the winter so I'm okay with buying a few bags of this to get the birds through.

I bought this seed to keep the starlings away from my feeders because I read they don’t like safflower seed. Well it worked. They don’t like it. Other birds will eat it especially cardinals, sparrows and doves.

Expensive!
